Todays concert was actually the first of my concert series thanks to an unfortunate musicians strike.
It was Beethoven's 7th (always fun) and And the Sibelius 5th which is on of the most beautiful pieces of music written:
This little excerpt of the Sibelius 5th begins with the scherzo in the 3rd movement
Listen and about 1 min 18 seconds into it, the swan theme rises from the french horns...
It is a series of rising fifths that represents a flock of swans passing above us across the sky.
And above these fifths, Sibelius builds a song in the woodwinds that is sweet and equally beautiful.

I was so enjoying the entire 5th symphony that when I heard this theme, my only thoughts were -- this music is going to end too soon. It was so beautiful I wanted it to be more than the 35 or 36 minutes in length.
Most people know Sibelius for his composition FINLANDIA but for sheer beauty the 5th symphony is much better.
