I've not used topicals, so I can't speak to it. Gabapentin, on the other hand, is "supposed" to be good for neural pain (it rarely is), and is generally worthless. There are a few others (e.g., Lyrica) that he might try to pawn off on you - generally worthless. Don't give trials long time periods. If stuff doesn't work, press the issue.

He also talked about nerve block injections and a patch that you can out on to numb things if those don't work. I guess it is just what I have to do if I want to have it removed so the drs can say they tried everything

It sounds like the doc wants to find out where the pain is really coming from. I think this is a good thing. It could be coming from the testicle (in which case removing it is probably the best thing), or it could be coming from something near the testicle, or a nerve going to the testicle, in which case removing the testicle may not help anything.

It does give a different sensation I will admit.

Lyrica just made me high. It was not a great choice.

Never did get nerve blocks. I read that they are diagnostic tools mostly. I was offered lower spinal nerve blocks but chickened out and went with the orchiectomy. (I heard about the spine blocks leaving the entire groin area numb)

I too had problems for a long time and in the end had them out on 03/15 this year, no more pain and feeling great.

I took a different route to cause the removal, I injected with calcium chloride, which DOES cause pain and swelling, but ultimately causes inflammation like scars in the testes and this persuaded my urologist to suggest removing them immediately he saw the results of my ultrasound scans.

If you do decide to go this route to bring about their removal, read the entire thread on calcium chloride before doing anything. There are several of us who have used this method to bring about removal of our testes.

Cream or patches did not take away the pain. I think there was some good in the inflammation reduction and muscle relaxation though.

Pain free after orchidectomy. I am 36 now. It is not the worst thing every. HRT can get annoying at times though
