Jersey Boys

Post by Arab Nights (imported) »

We went to see the movie and really enjoyed it. I had read a snarky review, but when I saw Eastwood's name, I decided to go. It was one of those really, really rare movies where the audience applauded at the conclusion and hung around for the credits because there were singing scenes as part of the credits.

It began as a musical on Broadway. Always watch and listen to the end of a musical.

I love the songs. I grew up with those songs.

I stopped watching Eastwood movies years ago. It was unforgiven that should have been soon forgotten and he got an Oscar.

Your acting like a gull durned Johnny Reb who cain't let go the past and still remembers what those got danged Yanks did back in '63 (1863). After I watched "Gran Torino," I let go of the past sins and decided it might be interesting to watch the product of a creative mind which obviously can jump from one style to another.

Remember where you are: shaka brah. Everything is alright. Chill in your island paradise (green with envy).

I love Clint Eastwood directed movies usually. Unforgiven being one of my favorite westerns. Million Dollar Baby is another excellent movie off the top of my head. Although Trouble with the Curve was awful. As for Jersey Boys, I'll wait for it to hit cable.

I thought UNFORGIVEN was a good Western but not a seminal one. "Once Upon a Time in the West" was a spectacular movie but he didn't have the foresight to make that.

I thought GRAN TORINO was contrived. It is a story told many times over and this time wasn't that good.

Trouble With the Curve was a nice romance and a change of pace but then, I'm partial to baseball movies. Real partial.

MIDNIGHT IN THE GARDEN OF GOOD AND EVIL was a poor adaptation of an excellent book.

INVICTUS was inspirational but flawed in that Nelson Mandela was much more human than they present him. But this is still a good movie.

HEREAFTER is thoughtful and sad. Not a mainstream theme.

HEARTBREAK RIDGE is a good war movie in the same way HAIR is a good war movie.

FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS was overshadowed by LETTERS FROM IWO JIMA. "Letters" harkens back to THE BRIDGE ON THE RIVER KWAI

MYSTIC RIVER is a good mystery but really tacky icky-creepy-makes you want a shower type of theme.

JERSEY BOYS - most likely I will play it for the music when it gets to be free.

You know it was so bad other then a western I could not tell you much more about it, not to be confused with "Beguiled" 1971 which was excellent, don't eat the mushrooms. Which I saw at the theater with "play misty for me' also 1971, another Eastwood hit.

I did not say I did not like Eastwood movies, I just stopped watching them after "unforgiven" which I have never forgiven him for.

Its just odd, Unforgiven has been showing on the Encore channels the last couple of months so I watched it again...still love it. Gene Hackman is great in it too. Considering I used to agree with River on the <forums that must not be named> most of the time, its nice to see some differences now and again. :)
