I, Frankenstein

Post by Dave (imported) »

Where do I begin explaining this movie.

I've used the concept of Frankenstein by Mary Shelley in a story or two. Specifically, two quotes:

"I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other."

and

"I saw — with shut eyes, but acute mental vision — I saw the pale student of unhallowed arts kneeling beside the thing he had put together. I saw the hideous phantasm of a man stretched out, and then, on the working of some powerful engine, show signs of life and stir with an uneasy, half-vital motion. Frightful must it be, for supremely frightful would be the effect of any human endeavour to mock the stupendous mechanism of the Creator of the world."

This is a great idea. Frankenstein, son of Victor, the made man who cannot die and has no soul. He lives for 200 years in the arctic ice and eventually, since it's all melting, he stumbles southward and finds that he is in the middle of a fight between demons and angels and is forced to take sides.

Unfortunately, the angels are gargoyles brought to life my the Word of Michael and the demons are demons. That doesn't make much sense - plot-hole #1 - these things ascend and descend when killed.

The gargoyle angels want to kill him as a soulless abomination even though he can fight and kill demons (plot-hole #2, #3, #4, and #5) Truly very strange and illogical people.

The demons want him because animating the dead means that they can possess enough bodies to leave hell and take over the world. (plot-hole #6) . . .

It is a great story for a GRAPHIC NOVEL but not a movie unless you like action. It's all action. Lots of action. Think the "Underworld" series. . . However, very little story.

And you can guess the ending. I won't here because I don't do big spoilers.
