Can't understand why a woman voluntarily has her clitoris removed?

I imagin the removal of the clitoris would act as a form of partial chastity in the same way as the removal of the penile glans. It will be very difficult to reach orgasm just through rubbing - according to Master and Johnson women rarely insert during masturbation.
