Simple Bilateral Orchiectomy healing time.......??????
Yippee!!!! I have finally been scheduled for a bilateral orchiectomy in a hospital done by a REAL Urologist!! I am soo ready for this. It has taken 3 years of alcohol injections...several doctors and specialists but persistence has paid off! I am scheduled for Tuesday May 6th, 2014 at 1pm. My question is how long will I need to be off work? How long does it take to heal to the point that I can go back to my office job. It is a desk job and does not require standing or lifting...any ideas?

Congratulations! I have read of inguinal surgery patients going home within 6 hours and returning to work in a week. So you could estimate 2 weeks off work to be safe. It also depends on how well the surgery goes and how quickly you heal some heal quicker than others. Good luck.

I went home about an hour or so after surgery and was back at work the next day (desk job).

I went to a cutter and was back at work (also a desk job) in a week. I did it while on "vacation" and nobody was the wiser. That said, listen to your body and go back when it tells you you're ready.

I was in and out of surgery in 2 hours, another hour in recovery; I slept off and for the rest of the day, the next day I was up and doing well, was driving even though the Dr. said not to drive for 2 weeks, all in all for me only one day of down time then it was a Non-Event

Hell I had to clean the motel room and dispose of all the used surgical waste. Then I drove to McDonalds for breakfast, bought him breakfast and after breakfast I drove home to pretend nothing was different. Sure wished my car was an automatic and not a standard. Back to work on Tuesday at my part time job and then to my full time job on Saturday. I did what I had to do. It was an Event but one with which I could quickly recover.

The surgery , depending on if inguinal or scrotal is somewhere between 1 and 2 hours. If they put you under, that will likely mean recovery for an hour or so. An overnight in the hospital is very unlikely, you will be sent hope and told to ice down with frozen peas. ( they do work well )
For me I actually came home, took a nap , and then got up and went out and vaccuummed my pool. LOL Damned leaves!!!
While that is not recommended, you should be more than ready to return to work within a few days to a week, depending on how fast you tend to heal. Expect swelling to last for 3-4 weeks.

Mine were removed inquinally and, although sore, i was up and driving the next day. You probably will want to take it easy on yourself for a day or so afterwards; however, even if you feel well enough. The body should have rest to help it recover. As Raymar advised, using frozen peas helps a lot. For me anyway, keeping the incision area cold to reduce the swelling helped to minimize the pain. Good luck to you and a speedy recovery.

I was under the knife at 8am home by 11am, had quite a lot of discomfort that day, used a lot of ice packs the next morning was pretty good and by the third day I was more or less fine other than if I moved to suddenly.

Congrats on getting it done. It all depends on you but I would say a couple of weeks even for a desk job the first 3 or 4 days were very painful on movement I couldn't bend or straighten I had to lie on an angle, if you are getting rid of your scrotum as well thats quite a big op and also takes quite some time to recover. All I can say is now you are getting what you want enjoy it and dont rush you will spend the first few weeks just looking at your self.
