I never suggested that he go cold turkey. You read too much into my suggestion.
Not to be argumentative, but you didn't give any other impression in your post. Your only suggestions was stop pills, substitute with more diet and exercise. After that you went into things around the specifics of his castration and aftercare without any more attention paid to the medications for pain.
Conclusion if I have no other information to go on - stop pills, substitute with diet and exercise. No in-between. So I responded to that.
That said, your suggestion of diet and exercise is good for all of us.
