Historical Note

Post by Glenda J (imported) »

November 27, 1700

A new law concerning sodomy was passed by the Pennsylvania assembly.

If committed by a white man, sodomy was punishable by life in prison and, at the discretion of the judge, a whipping every three months for the first year.

If married, the man was castrated and his wife was granted a divorce.

If committed by a black man, the punishment for sodomy was death.

of participation. What makes people afraid of the sexual behavior of other people? Why does anyone care? That is the mystery.

Maybe they figured that if they got HELL crowded with sodomites that there would be no room for hypocrites...

Religion becomes religious fundamentalism when you take your ideals and try to force others to follow them.

I can see why someone would want to be celibate, to wait for marriage, to avoid prostitutes, etc. However, it becomes dangerous when people start stoning women to death for pre-marital sex.

It seems to be human nature that as soon as we apply a regimen to ourselves that we want everyone else to do the same thing. It is like when my sisters became vegetarian and started criticising others for eating meat, or when I get on an exercise kick and start bugging my wife to go to the gym.

The word "hypocritical" literally means overly critical. A person should really only be critical of oneself -- leave others alone.

I am beginning to think that our Alpha brain waves are in harmony at times.

The Greek "hypo" means "under".

"Hypocritical" means UNDERly critical,

NOT overly.

And this whole thing about leaving

others alone is frankly ridiculous.

I mean, if you saw some fundamentalist

parents abusing their gay children,

would you leave them alone?

SOME things HAVE to be fought for.
