Man has penis chopped off in revenge attack

Cops in England closed a main highway to search for a man's penis after it was chopped off in a gruesome revenge attack and thrown away along the road.

It is thought the 40-year-old victim - known locally as Kelvin "Kelly" Hewitt - had been mutilated in revenge for sleeping with the girlfriend of a member of a traveller family.

Police closed the A66 road in Middlesbrough, northern England, for several hours to try and find the severed penis. It was unclear if they were successful.

Hewitt, a father of at least seven children by three different women, was found in a distressed state with "serious injuries to his groin area", alongside the highway, reported The Mirror.

He was placed in an induced coma, which he has now come out of, but police were still unable to interview him because of Hewitt being too traumatized by the extent of his injuries and the strong painkillers he had been given.

A family friend told The Mirror: "Kelly's a good dad and a decent bloke. He's a hard worker and he loves his kiddies, he is devoted to them. There's no reason to go after him like this, it's barbaric."

One of his daughters wrote on Facebook: "My dad's stable now just hoping for a speedy recovery. Love you papa smurf!"

A 22-year-old man was being held by police, reported The Mirror.

A few weird things about this story. First of all they apparently had to induce a coma for a couple days?!? I've never heard of such a thing for a single wound like that. Maybe due to extreme blood loss or something, but really unless you have all over body trauma or specific brain trauma why would they do that?

Secondly, I think it is weird when everyone says "they must have got the wrong man", "he's so nice". This was a guy that just moved into a gypsy camp and has a reputation for serial relationships. It seems very likely to me that a "nice guy" could still get someone sufficiently jealous to do such a thing.

Lastly, I wonder if he did it to himself. Otherwise, I don't understand why it would take so long to be able to talk to police. If someone wounded me, the first thing I would say to police is "here's the mofo that did this to me, go get them!". I understand it would be traumatic, but so much so that you can't speak for 5 days even to police that might help you get justice? I suppose the one reason I might not tell people is if I was planning my own "justice".

Anyway, there is so much in this story that doesn't add up to me.
