What gel do you use?

Post by jako9999 (imported) »

HI all and to start with Happy New Year.

I use Testim Gel made by Farring it does its job well but the problem is it stays sticky for hours and no one seems to know how quick its absorbed because it still sticky even a couple of hours later its a real pain to use I have to sit there for an hour with no top on and hope its been absorbed, I also tried Tostran that was great you put it on and it was dry in a couple of minutes but I was allergic to it. I only use a very small amount and like a low libido I have thought about stopping T all together and posted about it but after getting some useful answers I think I need a little T for health reasons.

So my question is what are others using and what problems have people got? I'm going to see my endocrinologist in a couple of months and I want to go with some ideas that may be better for me, although I still want to stay male but what about female hormones and so on, the best people to know are people like us not the doctors who don't have to use the drugs.

Thanks in advance

I was on Androgel 1.62% pump, using one pump per day, 20.25mg until three weeks ago. My endocrinologist took me off of it. There was a study which shows more heart attacks of those who are on HRT. If I need to control hot flashes he wants me to only use it for them. After the first week and a half I had hot flashes and use it once. So far they I haven't had anymore. He wants me to continue my Fosamax and vitamin D. I really feel great.

Did you have elevated blood pressure while on Androgel? If so, what was it and has it come down since you have stopped using it?

I am in the UK and like you had problems with Trostan I got terrible head aches, I was then given Testogel, 50mg sachets, it dries almost instantly and gives me enough to keep me feeling good and is easy to regulate, if I feel to horny I just decrease the dose for a day or two, I get it on the NHS. My endocrinologist has told me you absorb about 20% of the 50mg, I do get peaks of energy with it though, I put it on in the morning by evening my energy has gone but I have lost some of the weight I put on when I didn't use any, and I have the energy now to swim my mile a day I do it before I use the gel, and I feel mentally much better than when I used none, so for me its working well. I was also told that mixing the gel with aloe vera cream would make the gel dry faster as I had the same problem with Trostan.

I have used Testim. I had no problem with it drying too slow. I was put of Fortesta for a month and had problems with it so my Dr. put me back on AndroGel. He prescribed the 1.62 and wanted me to use two pumps of it because that is what I was using with the 1.0 I am only using one pump daily adn feel great. I see him again at the end of the month so will know ifr my T level is o.k. ??He thought it was too low six months ago. That was we\hen I was using Fortesta. A friend who is a Dr. told me that at my age, I coupld most likely get along without any HRT. When asked about osteoporosis, his reply eat that men my age would develop it with or without HRT. This is probably because of the belief that as you age your T levels drop anyway.

Did not elevate my blood pressure but years ago I was on 50mg and it elevated my red blood count.

I'm also on Androgel, 50mg sachets. I agree with what UKdesexed says about testogel, in my opinion another commercial name for the same product than androgel.

My concern was more on the regimen than on the product. I've tried many combinations, and finally found what's good for me ( I take 100mg/week).

For my part, it dries quickly.

I must say i take medication to regulate my blood pression, but can't tell if it's because of HRT.

I recommend Androforte from Hormone Solutions in Australia (they ship to US). They came up with a cream that you apply directly to the srotum. This is important because the scrotum skin is extremely absorbant and much less medicine is wasted with a more consistent dose. Other testosterone creams usually irritate the skin, which is why they can't be applied to your most absorbant skin and even alternate areas of application -- rubbing gel on your stomach or thighs really isn't a good way to get medicine into your system. The cream has no smell, has nice consistency, and sort of "melts" clear with no residue.

I used Testim for a long time back when I was taking T. Yes, there is the stickiness, and there is also the smell, but most people said the smell was pleasant. :) You could still feel the stickiness after a few hours, but there was no doubt that it was working for me. I also used Androgel, and this didn't have the stickiness or the smell. It dried quickly, but I needed a lot more of it to get my levels as high as Testim did. Other things I used were shots (I did pretty well on those, but I didn't like not having as much control over my levels) and patches - those were definitely the worst in terms of convenience. :)

I have taken E while identifying as a man in the past. You definitely would not be the first male-identified eunuch to do that. But you do have to be careful since there is no way of knowing how it will affect you, and depending on how much you are taking, you could see a lot of feminization.
