need to make decision
I have been seeing councilor and has been suggested chemical castration for my "paraphilia". Not sure what type, but some sort of hormone that reduces the sex drive. but supposed to be side effects, I do want to take care of the problem but really want to keep this to myself. he also mentioned that there is "orchectomy" that will get rid of male hormones and stop my paraphilia. I am pretty young so don't know what to do, if the chemicals or the orchetomy are best. has anyone had experience or can tell me what is best? I am a student and on a tight budget, so will depend on what the insurance can cover. I don't want to get into the paraphilia but it is considered serious enough to be a potential problem for me and I cannot risk that. anyway thaanks for any advice, I am glad I found this site on google it looks like lots of good information.

Re: need to make decision
Without knowing your paraphilia I'll give the best answer I can.
Chemical Castration would be using drugs (probably an injection) to force your body to shut down testosterone production - the would lower, reduce, and maybe eliminate your sex drive/libido.
Orchiectomy, to be blunt, would be a doctor going in and cutting your nuts off.
Now if the goal is to lower your sex drive, then I would go with the chemicals first. That will let both you and the councilor/doctor know if it will take care of your paraphilia. If you are o.k. with that, you could proceed to Orchiectomy, but keep in mind that you shouldn't do that if you ever plan to have children. I noticed in your profile you are young, so wanted to throw that out there.
Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Before I was physically castrated I had never used chemical castration, but I am happy I had my testicles removed. It cured my issues, which in my case is that my balls didn't feel right on my body - they felt like foreign growths.
Be careful, and make a well thought out and informed decision. I would recommend getting a second opinion whatever you decide to do for confirmation that it is right for you if nothing else.
Good luck.

Good advice above. Go back to your professional for guidance.
Medicines do nearly the same as orchiectomy, and are generally reversible.
Orchiectomy does mean cutting the nuts off. There is no magic to it; it hurts, but usually then doesn't after some weeks.
There are many good reasons for choosing the medicines first, as nuts can't be put back later.
Good luck with the counseling.

Just remember Chemical Castration, may not be fully reversible. There are so many variables related to each person it is impossible to know the how much time it will take before the effects becomes non-reversilbe. The effects in order which will be non-reversilbe is the loss of fertility, then atrophy of the testicles, any breast growth also could be non-reversilbe without going to a surgeon.

Re: need to make decision
....
I tried to answer the important things first, but maybe I never gave an answer to this clearest of questions. (If I did, put it down to old age and befuddlement.)
1. The orchie was at first entirely painless, but after some hours needed Motrin and some ice for the first day. The discomfort subsided mostly in the first week, and then continued to improve over the next two to three weeks.
2. Can't remember exactly how much it cost, but the urologist was not expensive. -Anyway, just a one-time payment.
3. Yes, very happy with the result; I haven't felt better for years. Fortunately even the Mrs enjoys having her own eunuch at home.
Sounds like a recommendation? Personally yes, but remember everyone is different, and remember you can't undo it, so make sure it is what you want for the rest of your life. If you are young, this may not be so easy to decide. As ever, wise folks here recommend getting the best advice before doing anything you might later regret.
Hope it all works out for you for the best.

Re: need to make decision
Hi Geoffrey,
Perhaps a trial with anti androgens such as androcur or siterone would help you. A few months without testosterone will help you decide if this is right for you and then maybe consider a orchidectomy?
Just be aware that if you take the anti androgens for a prolonged period of time the effects may become irreversible ( potentially six months )
Good luck
Christine
