Hawaii, the move

Post by Riverwind (imported) »

As many of you know and some know more then others, wait, well I am moving to Hawaii.

Today things really started to move, we rented a place on the big Island, at least we called and she took down the listing, filled out the application and all.

So the Move is ON. I ordered the cargo pod and will pick it up about the 15th of Jan. and then have 5 days to load it and move out of our place here. Through the good graces of our friend Talula we will be staying at his place that last week of January and his roommate will most likely be the one taking us to the airport when we leave.

Nelly my dog will be in the cargo hole flying with us, we must stop in Honolulu for her to enter the state, Rupert will join us later after we get settled. When we get there we need to rent a car, then go buy one, (truck) then get some stuff at the thrift store to eat with and one. Maybe a cot or two for my son and I to sleep on as our stuff wont arrive tell about the 15th to 20th of Feb. So camping for a month both here and there, I don't think it will be a problem as I will have my camera and we will be exploring the island for months.

Yes its really happening, I guess I should have started a blog, maybe I will move this there in a few days, it should be a good on running story, with all sorts of twists and turns. Like when Rupert comes I will need to meet him in Honolulu and get him there, then put him back in the crate and fly him on to the big island.

What is really amazing to me is that its cheaper to get a pod and ship it from here and then fly the whole way then it is to drive cross country and ship it from LA, and fly from the west coast. Cheaper by a couple thousand, of course I won't be able to see my kids that live there or grandcritters but oh well.

The new episode of Buying Hawai'i this week is about living on the big Island off the grid.

What I learned in this episode is y'gotta find water too.

G'Luck and Aloha Oy !

I hope my wished for storm hits you before you begin your trip because,

I would not wished you stormed upon, on the road.

Beware the rain, Moi. Riverwind does sound like some obscure WW II code. Like maybe those balloons which brought fire bombs on the wind. I wouldn't stomp on any flaming paper bags on your porch. Might be a gift brought on the Riverwind.

I shudder at the thought or spending a night away from my house. When I took business trips it always took me three days to plan and pack and panic, scream in private and wonder what I forgot. Moving the simple little house of mine is a nightmare inducing thought that keeps me awake at night, shrieking in fear, shivering in puddles of sweat.

A cargo container and a month camping -- terror -- good luck and I wish you the best.

So exciting! All the very best to you.

-Hope they give you a discount on the move; you're two items the lighter!

Either way, have fun and tell us all about it!

One time on a business trip to Mecca (QVC HQ outside Philly) there were four of us, the VP who spent half his time traveling, one small bag, his assistant one small bag, me one small bag, the fourth person who I don't think ever traveled 4 large bags for a 3 day 2 night working trip. He had a gym bag for working out that he never had time to use, he had a garment bag for the 3 suits he brought he never wore any of them, on bag for god knows what and one for his play clothes. Watching him trying to carry, push, pull, tug, all his shit at the airport was funny as hell, we watched, never offered any help.

So Dave, when you travel, I know about having to take medical devices which I now do too, but just how much stuff do you need to take for a three day trip, not counting medical stuff which goes where you go?

Moi, on the east side of the big island, the side were moving to is a rain forest. It rains just about every day and the water system everybody uses is a catch system. The rain water from your roof is collected into a big vat then treated and pumped back into your house. Look it up. So water is not a problem and when we build or buy we will also be using solar panels along with the catch system for the water and electric needs and be off the grid and totally self sufficient with some pigs, goats, chickens and rabbits for meat and dairy and all the tropical fruit you can eat. We will never starve.

Like this one article I read today about hummingbirds, there are no hummingbirds in Hawaii.

"It got down to 65 or 66 this evening, I did not know if I should put on a Hoody or close the window, ? , I wonder if the window closes? " and there are no hummingbirds in Hawaii.

My luck, I'd move to a volcanic island, and the sucker would blow.

Of course, I'm sitting on a finger of the New Madrid fault, and it hasn't blown yet.
