Yahoo email and Activeris

I have two questions.

First, often to the right of my email is a panel promoting a service to "scan and remove Windows errors." It says "highly recommended" At the bottom in small letters is "Brought to you by Activeris.com" with a big 'download now' button. Has anyone used it and have comments to make? Is it free?

Second, a while back Yahoo 'improved' their email. My personal opinion is that computers/internet have gotten to the point that you don't see huge improvements. Companies still issue changes, but to me many look like change for changes sake. The new Yahoo email is a perfect example. It does nothing for me that the previous did not do. It is just different and caused some stumbling on my part while I figured out how to do what had been second nature. In fact, the new Yahoo email is a step down. It is slower and clunkier. When I try to delete emails, often time Yahoo goes into this churning mode and eventually there is a message that Windows has stopped working. Just a for example. Are there any other Yahoo email users who have the same issues or is it just my computer?

Its not just you, I liked the old mail service, it was simple and clean but now with the new and unimproved it is slower, they have added an add email to the top and it does lock up. I have a gamer PC very fast high end, its not you, its Yahoo.

I checked my yahoo mail and I found no such thing, I'm on Mac, I'd be scare to click on it if I were you.

don't click it. Period.

Go to a source like Consumer Reports and look up Windows error removers. Even Microsoft is better although Microsoft is always expensive.

Chances are that this supposed utility is a information scanner and wants to see all that you do. You can get the same effects from free advice on various trustworthy websites.

I see the same sort of ads for Macintosh and all it ail do is collect your data and send it off to a company to get you more ads.

Yes delete it straight away, it will be a virus or even worse a "scareware" download. Never ever trust pop-ups EVER!

Since their 'upgrade', Yahoo mail has become much slower and takes forever to load. Many times, I get frustrated with it and just leave. I'm seriously considering closing that account, which I've had since 1997.

As for ads offering things, don't EVER click on those things. I learned that the hard way ONCE. I run Firefox with AdBlock+, and I no longer see any of that crap.

Yep, when I get to Hawaii, I will get a new mail service, Yahoo has gone down the tube, I too have had my account for 10 years, its gone come Hawaii.

Hmm... Webmail isn't the only way to use gmail, ymail, etc. Give a thought to the free Thunderbird from Mozilla Firefox. It will go to fetch a copy of all your mail from many email accounts and bring them securely to your own computer. Versions exist for Win, Mac, Linux and others. It has a good spam filter, search and lots more. Most often the setup is very easy, as it does most of it itself, given the account name and password. Ad-spam can be filtered very easily with Tbird, so maybe no need to confuse everyone with changing email addresses.

Win malware is a pain, and I don't know of a one-stop solution, but a combination of the free Spybot and the free Eusing registry cleaner seems to keep the Win machines round here clean and humming. -Just my 2-cents...
