I got three doses of Depo Provera and would like to do a chemical castration trial. Now I have the following questions:

1) Are three shots enough to get a good idea how it feels like to be an eunuch?

2) What timing would you recommend? First dose t0, second dose t0+1week, third dose t0+3weeks?

3) How long will it take for the effects to wear off?

1. No. The common agreement here is that at least few months are required. Some side effects need time to set in.

3. At least a month. Probably more.

Here's an update on my Depo Provera trial. Below you will find several diary like entries describing my journey and my experiences. I hope that you find this information useful.

January 2nd:

Today I injected a first dose of Depo Provera into one of my thigh muscles. A second dose will follow in one week and a third in three weeks. Then I will take it from there and see if I continue. So, I'm on the way with my chem castration trial.

January 12th:

Second shot of Depo Provera today, three days later than planned due to a trip abroad. I can still get erections, even though I think they have become less frequent. I masturbated only twice since the first injection.

January 19th:

Today I did my third shot. I'm already a bit routined. No more trembling hands and such. Up to know I can notice a reduced libido and noticably less frequent spontaneous erections, but not much else. More Depo Provera doses ordered.

February 12th:

Three and a half weeks later I definitely feel the effects of the injections, my sex drive is much reduced, but not inexistent. I masturbate at the moment less than once a week. At the moment I feel like I'm not so strong from an athletic point of view, but this might also be related to a nasty cold I had in the past two weeks. Apart from that, I don't feel any side effects. An additional 3 shots of Depo Provera have arrived, but I'm not yet sure if I'm going to inject them or not.

March 5th:

At the moment I feel that the effects of my three Depo Provera injections start to fade away: one or two nocturnal erections last week, more sexual thoughts during the day and masturbated twice this week...

So how was it?

My sex drive was massively reduced between the second half of January and the end of February, but it did not reduce to absolute zero. In that time, I masturbated about every second week. This not really due to a sexual urge, but more out of curiosity to know if it was still possible and how it would feel. It was possible, but the erections were short-lived and the orgasms felt a bit different. I think that the three injections were probably enough to get a taste of how it feels like to have little or no sex drive, but I also think that it is not enough to find out

how it feels like to be an eunuch.

Side/adverse effects?

In the time I had three colds, one of them was really nasty, and once an upset stomach. Coincidence? Even though I have a certain predesposition, I don't normally get sick that often.

I had sometimes sweaty nights, but of course I don't know if it was due to the injections or mainly due to the colds...

If you're into endurance sports, like running, cycling, cross country skiing: after injecting 3x Depo Provera, you can easily add 10% to your pre-injection times if not more. Also here, all the colds didn't improve the situation in my case, either.

Actively looking for a new boyfriend while your sex drive is nearly zero? Very hard, no motivation to do that. So if you're on the introverted side as I am, (chemically) castrating yourself will probably make you more lonesome. It's good to have a large circle of friends

Future?

I still have three doses of Depo Provera left, but I will not inject them in the near future, I'll let the effects run out in order to see how it feels like to be back to "normal" in contrast to the sexless state. Despite of my large circle of friends, I'm still in need of more gay friends and a boyfriend. So I'll try to direct the newly gained (sexual) energy towards going out and meeting new people, which is a challenge for me, due to the mentioned shyness/introversion.

Is final castration something for me?

I definitively have a castration fetish, but I have the suspicion that it is self-harming-related in my case. I was in the closet for a long time and only started to accept my being gay about three years ago at age 32. Last year I came out to all friends and family, which went much better than anticipated. So I have the feeling that actively working on improving my self-respect/self-acceptance/confidence/sex life will help to lessen the self-harming tendencies.

March 23rd:

The effects continue to wear off. I think there is still a little effect of the Depo Provera injections left. My libido increased, but it is not yet where it was before the injections. At the moment I'm enjoying the regained energy and strength, sports activities are fun again. The lack of strength and endurance was really the biggest side effect I noted. It was really surprising to me how much force and speed/endurance I lost in a very short time. Without/with little testosterone it is really no fun cycling at max speed or doing weight training. So this is pure anti-doping! For the moment I will not continue with the injections.
