How would this work. Sounds like a Tesla dream. The man, not the car.

Maybe extend a long antenna into the charged ionosphere and take what you want ?

Please advise.

The only way it can work is - like an air core transformer, probably at high frequency, to make it more efficient. A bit like RFID tags and wireless chargers for cell phones.

Tesla did a similar thing - Tesla coil (http://www.mike-tedesco.com/blog/wp-con ... a-coil.jpg) is an air core resonance transformer.

I have my doubts if it would properly work, especially if an ordinary car would stand above the charger (Eddy currents , if the car bottom would be conductive, the charger would end up as inductive heater, if the frequency is high enough. And if it would be low - the efficiency of the charger would be low.). Have you ever seen an induction furnace?

I haven't said that it would not work. This works for charging phones .

I said that I have my concerns, not that it does not work. In experiments, distance was about 10cm, the more the distance, the less the efficiency of the transfer. So - if you are standing outside this thing, at about 1 or 2 it's sizes, you will be safe. Some medical implants are charged in similar way, only at lower power.

I can see it now, Moi pulling his SUV up into his garage with the metal plate on the bottom and top, turning on the power unit right after he puts on the protective clothing (knows that the aluminum cap would be a bad thing) and proceeds to fry one of his cats.

I'm mostly an electric dummy but those are the same principle -- the current induces heat in a metal pot or skillet and cooks the food.
