Starvation does sound drastic, what about just limiting the diet to about one meal every other day, would that significantly limit a eunuch child's growth?

See Dave's answer above. Now let's get back on topic.

Does that mean it's impossible to stay physically a child forever? I apologize if my question may still be off-topic, but I must know the answer.

I keep staring at the topic and thinking about the minimum age. It's all so circumstantial and conditional that I'm really not of one fixed mind.

I do know what I might say:

If you aren't the child's parents then the when the law considers the person an adult is the earliest you can agree.

If you are the child's parents then when the child can express himself or herself in clear and convincing terms would be appropriate.

In the case of ambiguous genitalia then I don't have a good answer.

But I'm interested in reading all opinions.

In case of ambiguous genitals, IMHO, the only workable solutions is: leave it as is, unless absolutely medically necessary. If it is a medical necessity - do a minimum repair, do not reassign.

The thing is, that you can not predict gender identity.

Re the "law considers somebody an adult" - I have problems with the definition of "adult" by age, but unfortunately can not suggest anything better.

(By what criteria one is considered an adult?).

adulthood is a definition in most of the world. It has always been inconsistent, arbitrary, and never defined by medicine

Being of a certain age, I remember when kids were drafted into th army to fight in Vietnam at eighteen and not allowed to drink alcohol until twenty-one.

The legal system in the USA considers the eighteenth birthday as the day a person may be held to a contract. Below that date, minors can rescind a contract. Also at Eighteen one can drink alcohol legally. Being tried for a crime as an adult is another squishy and imprecisely defined situation.

It's also funky that driving can be legal at 14 (farm equipment in some states) or 16 (learner's permits and licenses)

Below the age of about seven (first grade) a child is under control of parents.

Between seven and 12 or 14, in most states (and yes, it gets that detailed and varied) children have some rights that they can advocate on their own.

I do know from experience that money held in trust for a child is under the strict control of the adult trustee until the age of fourteen. BEtween fourteen and sixteen the child has the rights to name the trustee of that money. At sixteen to eighteen, the child can use the money on their own decision. The age there is not eighteen. I've been that trustee and it's not as simple as that.

So what does all this mean for a child who says -- I want to be a girl not a boy -- or the child who says -- I want to be a man and not a woman and play sports and lift weights

Confusion and indecision and nothing well defined.

I picked those last two examples deliberately

We do hear stories of little boys who want to be girls at early ages.

However, there are girls who are athletic and yet quite feminine and live as a woman.

Seemingly contradictory situations...

So it seems to me that society isn't prepared for gender decisions. Castration is irreversible and it seems to me that none of my discussion about gender is in anyway irreversible. Those two things clash.

There are drugs which stop puberty, and but can damage the person if taken to long, (puberty will not happen).

No ten year old boy is going to ask to have his balls cut off unless he's really sure he wants it. At that age I liked the fantasy of castration but I would have died before asking for it.

It seems to be outside the realms of fantasy that a ten-year-old, however precocious, is going to come out with "Mommy, I feel so girly today, will you take me to the clinic so's I can have my balls taken out?" On the other hand as I've said elsewhere, children are very susceptible to suggestion. The only thing standing between the ten-year-old and an irreversible step in the wrong direction is the fact that in most countries, castration of children is an illegal operation.

The many websites featuring Asian T-girls all indicate that they were "done" in their teens, by which time they presumably knew which way their orientation was heading.

I "buy" some of this though not all. A lot of little boys find the notion of being castrated exciting. My mother used to regale me with tales of "French page boys who have their little balls taken out so that they can't "do it". Also "All boy-horses have their balls taken out so they can't "do it". I used to tingle all over - and more besides - at the thought of having my balls taken out. But that doesn't mean I wanted

Now. Here's a scenario. Ten-year-old boy says "Mommy,
I feel so girly today, will you take me to the clinic and have my balls taken out?" Mommy: "Sure, dearest. And when those nasty balls have been seen to, we'll buy you a pretty dress, and then you'll always be Mommy's sweet darling girl".
