It sounds like surgical castration was a common treatment in most VA hospitals in the past as being much cheaper in the long run for problems like prostate cancer than chemical castration. Fast, easy, permanent, effective, and inexpensive in either large scale and small scale use in men.

I was really surprised when I overheard the next patients medical history in my dents' office.

The old man, obviously over 70's said that he had the testicles removed while he was crossing his legs, so calm that one would think he was talking about having a tooth pulled out or hair cut.

I was really surprised. Is it normal for people to have their testicles removed after some age?

Being a thyroid cancer patient (one does really "survive" thyroid cancer as much as one simply follows instructions and is cured), I tell every dentist that I've had my thyroid removed and ask for as few x-rays as possible.

Prostate or testicular cancer can spread to the head and neck. Maybe he was looking for fewer x-rays?

I consider myself very lucky to have done just that. I started hormones and then 8 months later got an orchi without any "letters". The urologist that did it works in the same clinic as the doctor who prescribed my hormones. My next task is to find a doctor that will do a scrotectomy. And BTW I'm 66 years old.

In Ontario, where I live, an orchi requires a year on hormones and 2 assessments, though no need for a therapist. At least that's the process for trans surgeries.

I had mine removed over twenty five years ago. I think I was in my early forties.

I know I am one who is older, 74 to be exact. Been married twice, 5 kids. Single now and comfortable being single. I have a prostate that has begun to enlarge and doctor has me on Finasteride and Tamsulosin. At this point in life I would be happy to get the testicles removed and be able to get rid of the medications. I really have no need for the testicles anymore and if castration will help prevent or slow down prostate cancer I would take that option !!! I am a "snowbird" who flys north in summer and to Florida in the winter. So when I get back to Florida in the fall, I am going to ask my primary physician in Florida if she will recommend removal of the testicles. I hope she will !!!

Like hornedowl66 I am 74 and was castrated in April this year. I also had the scrotum removed at the same time. I absolutely LOVE the look and feel of nothing below my penis. I am on TRT and have been for some 10 years which caused my testicles to atrophy and ride up in my groin most of the time. My wife cannot have penetrative sex anymore, so I am left with masturbation as the only relief. I say relief as if it is a pain and need to get rid of it, but I do enjoy it and usually partake in the pleasure at least once a day and sometimes more. Castration has actually made jerking off more pleasurable if you can believe that. My wife allows me the indulgence since she cannot provide wifely pleasures. All in all, I am grateful to still have the pleasure at my age and only wish I had been castrated earlier in life.
