Of course there is a risk. To have a look for health is not a mistake. Often it's too late. As ever, I hope some older men are interested in discussion. But tell us, how feeling after surgery.

I am 66 and looking to get castrated. Will go the chemical way first to check it out. I wouldn't miss my balls at all nor the sex drive that I still have.

I don’t consider myself old at 57 almost 58 been eunuch since 52 went 2.5 years no T but am now on T and plan to go back to low or no T when I don’t have to work so hard at very physical and mental work. I loved a lot about no T but ended up going on T due to above work factors. The combination of physical and mental got to be too much. No T for myself without that would be very doable I believe long term.

Sparkey49,

Your experience shows its tougher for hard working and younger men to go without testosterone than older men whose T levels are already declining naturally from simply aging.

I am happy to report that FINALLY I am going on anti-androgen or t-blockers in about ten days. My doctor, my nurse and a social worker are looking for a Urologist to castrate me in one of the Veterans Hospitals within the state of Michigan...the LP (Lower Peninsula) as I live in the UP. I did not expect this long of a wait but with the VA it is free for me and I can not afford much in the way of MtF total transition. Something is better than nothing. And by the way, I am seventy two.

Congratulations UPer from a MI troll (people from upper Michigan are referred to as upers, and we people below the big bridge connecting the two parts are referred to as trolls).

Perhaps you will end up at either Battle Creek, Ann Arbor, or Grand Rapids, which are all within an hour drive from me here in Lansing. I've heard good things about the Ann Arbor and Battle Creek hospital services. I am not a veteran.

One's age does mean one is "old".

My age was 71 when I was castrated four months ago, medically in a proper surgical facility by a licensed urologist.

The condition of my testicles was ultimately determined to be due to "infarction"; eg loss of blood flow in the testicles which rendered them basically dead lumps of gristle which was confirmed by the post surgery pathology report. Cause unknown.

This resulted in seriously low testosterone; 4 on one lab test.

My MD prescribed Androgel which I have been using ever since this initially occurred 4 years ago.

Then last year my balls became painful.

I was dead set against castration because of my past negative experiences with surgery.

But ultimately after putting up with the pain, and after blood tests and CT scans to check for cancer revealed no cancer, I decided to have them removed.

This was 4 months ago.

I continue using Androgel.

I searched Wikipedia and the internet for "eunuch calm" and found nothing.

I presume this just means lack of interest in sex or ability to perform sexually.

So while my profile indicates an interest in castration and eunuch calm both are nothing I sought or seek, but am interested in learning more about.

While Androgel has not provided me with the sexual vigor I had decades ago, I have aged and contribute my altered abilities due to the advance of years, not necessarily to the effectiveness, or lack of effectiveness of Androgel.

My research revels that an absence of testosterone can have negative medical consequences, and Androgel can also have some negative consequences. I will continue to use Androgel. The effects of not using it are to me worse than the potential consequences of using it.

Thus ends this post of a 71 year old white, gay, male.

Your comments are welcomed.

It sounds like you did the right thing and like you know a lot about your body and balls and testosterone. Any idea what might have killed your balls so completely that they had zero blood flow ?

How does it feel being a gelding now ?

Anyone else know you got castrated and how have they reacted to knowing ? Most people should expect that many men will have ball troubles as they age. You had a smart dr to not fight removing your dead testicles for you. Wish more drs would be willing for men needing castrations.

The only VA hospital in Michigan who will castrate me is the one in Detroit. My VA social worker here in Iron Mountain is organizing my surgical date so it won't be long now. Of course I will happily update this blog after I return. I am taking a round-trip flight from Kingsford, Michigan to Detroit as I can't drive after surgery. I will be glad to get this thing done.
