Re: Video-Translation Needed about Castration in Mumbai
I can't, but I could not see anything of consequence in the clip, seemed more of a vehicle to carry advertising.alex170170 (imported) wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2013 2:06 pm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYhiUe859fY

Re: Video-Translation Needed about Castration in Mumbai
I just watched the video and then brought it over to a friend of mine to watch it and translate it for me.
She is from India, and just came back from visiting her relatives there.
She told me that the video is not about castration; it is about birth control.
This video talks about a government program in which any individual is voluntarily made infertile, man or woman.
The women receive the equivalent of 600 US dollars in rupees each; the men get double that amount.
The shocking part of the video is that under age men, boys as young as 15 are showing up to get the vasectomy operation only because they want the money.
That is what my Indian friend told me. I only paraphrased her words. I'm guessing the reporters want to raise consciousness about the fact that under age men should not be allowed to do this in India.

Re: Video-Translation Needed about Castration in Mumbai
My friend just came back and clarified the issue. She said that this is done only in Bombay and that it isn't only under age men doing this but under age women are doing it too. She also reiterated that the video reporter was condemning the fact that this practice is done on minors. My friend stated that these minors showing up to be rendered infertile are doing it solely for the money.

Money is a strange thing..
But are they getting permanently castrated or just "temporatily" with vasectomy, if anybody knows? Isn't it a big difference there?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasectomy
Because the procedure is considered a permanent method of birth control (not easily reversed), men are usually counseled/advised to consider how the long-term outcome of a vasectomy might affect them both emotionally and physically.

So vasectomy has the same physical and mental effects that orchiectomy has, because it cuts through the whole cord, both vas and blood and nerves? Meaning you actually have to get testosterone externally? Oh, my. I though vasectomies were pretty simple. Didn't know it turned you just as much into a "eunuch" as a castration does.curious_guy (imported) wrote: Fri Sep 20, 2013 9:05 am http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vasectomy
