When "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" was implemented, was any mention made of transsexuality, or was DADT specifically directed towards gays and lesbians?

Now that DADT is gone, how does one's need for sexual reassignment enter into the military's evaluation of candidates for military service, or existing service personnel?

Or, one's need to become, or success at becoming a eunuch or Eunuch?

Would such make one "not fit for service", or not qualify for certain jobs or a security clearance or ?

Beyond that, regardless or sexual identity, regardless that it was Manning who stole and exposed secrets, somebody in government should be on the hook for not being more in control of who has access to sensitive data, and limiting ability to obtain it. That Manning, or anyone, could have amassed such huge amounts of data constitutes negligence on a grand scale by person or persons within the military technology system and some one, or some people (stupid idiots) should pay for such a giant blunder and failure. Never hear about that. Ultimately of course as Commander of the military forces you would think Pres. Obama would want heads to roll. I sure would. Somebody would pay dearly and systems would be overhauled and secured. But you never hear about that. Mums the word when the government makes an oops.

His transgender issued should not have any relevance to his violation of security. He/She should be treated the same as anybody else who compromises classified information.

This may be the first time a large chunk of the population actually SEE a transgendered person.

I had to work near a transgender person a number of years ago and that provided lots of insight but most people hear about someone, see some photo, and possible a picture of Renee Richards or Wendy Carlos or Chaz Bono, but they never truly SEE about that person.

So,,, lots people in the USA will now suddenly be confronted with Chelsea Manning and all of the issues surrounding being transgender in modern society...
