OBLIVION
with Tom Cruise, Morgan Freeman, and two lovely ladies you don't know.
no spoilers
I enjoyed this. It's a bit too talkative sometimes but it has everything a good Sci Fi movie should have - fights, spaceships, flying things with guns, explosions, clones with guns, evil alien computers, more fights, drone patrols with guns, a really big bang at the end.
Cruise plays an android mechanic who services the drones that kill alien survivors after earth has been invaded and repelled the invasion. It seems that 60 or so years before an alien spaceship destroyed the moon and wreaked havoc on the earth. Well as the story starts, that's what we know. Needless to say half of that story is a lie and there's lots of kinky plot twists. There's a nice romantic thread through the story that makes the characters more than flat and one-dimensional. And no one does truly asinine things like PROMETHEUS. I mean PROMETHEUS had five or six TSTL characters. OBLIVION has none.
An entertaining movie.

Re: OBLIVION (the 2013 Sci Fi movie)
My son watched this and said it was a good movie but he knew where it was going and how it would end 5 minutes into the movie, but still worth watching.
I usually listen to my son as he is good at nailing a movie.

It's visually thrilling. The images are really excellent and the sweep across the screen is breathtaking.
But the story is predictable.

Husband does heroic stuff in an dangerous environment. Wife stays at home (never leave) and does householding stuff. Classic. Could be a plot from a 50ies movie. Classic. I like that

No surprise here.
I hated it.
Deus ex Machina, obvious ending, ripoff of HG Wells "The Time Machine," somewhat, with the moon bit.
Morgan Freeman didn't do a very good job as God...oh wait, wrong movie...
Loaded in Illuminati symbolism as well. I guess the world ends in 2017 now.
