to the surgical wound and thereby increases the risk of infection to the burned tissue. The area of the penis you would need to cauterize using catery is rather large.

Re: glansectomy or head trimming
old softie is correct in the reason for the increased risk of infection. But nothing is without risk, there is also a risk of a suture reaction to the absorbable suture. But there is no additional risk of infection.
Did you mean cautrize a large area like that? No I've not done that, in todays medicine it would not be considered approprate care. But I'm sure that in the old days it was done. Just take a hot poker or iron (red hot from the fire) cut off the end of the dick and stick the hot iron on to stop the blood flow. Keeps them from dying from blood loss anyway. Plus you get the fun of the pain from the cut but then you get to take that sensitive tissue and burn it besides. (jk)
If you can get away from cautery it's better. You can get better results from clamping, but that can take longer, it's much easier to just zap it quickly.

sdstudbtm, fare enough.

Why does cautery
Sincerely,
Leon
Leon,
I do not believe that your question was adequately answered.
In general, burning tissue causes more infection because the tissues shrink and contract with burning with high temperatures and scar when healing. Scar tissue usually has a poor blood supply.
While this may be a good thing to kill microorganisms in an infected area, it also CAUSES infection due to the disruption of the blood supply and the destruction of intra-cellular spaces for the White Blood Cells to migrate into. The body's defense against infection requires that circulation of blood and lymph be unobstructed.
Think of what happens with burn victims and it will begin to make sense...
