There is an interesting article on BME/Extreme that supposedly tells how the author removed his penile glans. For those without a password, I have quoted what he tells us of his method:

"The method I used was to insert a steel tube that fit snugly into my urethra, Then I tied the glans very tight with cord around the groove and this eventually stopped the blood supply and all feeling in the glans.

"At this point I used a scapel to cut the glans around the tube just ahead of the cord and slid the severed glans off the tube, The tube and cord were left in place until the scabbing and cord fell off then I removed the tube which I left in for urinating while the wound healed. The tube was in for 6 days."

I doubt if the procedure is as easy and quick as the author makes out.

your not quite correct that a glanectomy is as complex as a total. But it is basically a partial penectomy no matter where it is done along the shaft. The procedure is really pretty simple. A tourniquet is placed at the base of the dick. The skin is opened and the dick is cut though except for the uretha. That is cut off a bit higher up to leave a little for the reconstruction. Using absorbable suture the arterys are ligated and then the tourniquet is removed to check for bleeding, Bleeeding is controled as necessary. Using more absorbable surture the two side shafts are closed end to end and sutured tight. The uretha is trimmed to the correct lenght and the skin is brough back up and sutured to the uretha and then the remaing skin is closed as well. A catheter is placed and a dressing is applied.

The interesting thing is that since the most sensitive nerves in the dick are in the head. Some guys have great difficulty cumming after a glansectomy, is a good method of chastity for some.

you can use a cautery, but there are differences. You would have to cauterize all of the arteries. If you wanted to cauterized the entire end of the stump you could do that as well, but I have not been very satisified with the small battery powerd cauteries. They are fine for very small area but for larger areas they are totally inevective. They just don't have the power. To do the entire stump you would need to use one of the more powerfull unit. In addition anytime you use a cautery, you increase the risk of infection by a factor of 3. This also apply to electrical or heat cautery. Has to do with the tissue damage that they cause.

In addition you also have the corpora (the tubes on each side) open on the end, they will ooze unless you cauterized the end of them. If you use sutures you close the end and you also create a more natural curved end to the stump.

Cautery has it's place but in this case you get a much better result with sutures over all and a reduced rate of infection.
