After a few stories in the news some years ago about cutters and things gone wrong, it's really no wonder.

Re: The Last Closet?
Things may have changed in recent years and opened things up for some, but I definitely catch a whole lot of shit from other LGBT people when they find out I take an antiandrogen and estradiol without being trans. The fact that I identify as a male/inbetween boygirl freak thing doesn't jive well with the vast majority of LGBT people I've spoken with about it. In real life they might be nice to your face and act like they don't care, but on the inside even most LGBT people aren't cool with people who like to sit inbetween genders or have some sort of atypical gender identity, or anything along those lines. Most of the LGBT people I've spoken to just can't fathom that someone would want to do this without being transgender, it's like they have a brain malfunction and it just enrages them and gets them all riled up that I've done this with no desire to become a girl. So needless to say I tend to keep quiet about it and pretend it's just how I am when someone brings up my looks.
It sucks that you have to keep quiet about such things but that's just how it is I guess. Apparently it really hurts peoples brains to have anything outside the norm. Even with the increased acceptance of transgender people, it's still done nothing for those who sit inbetween genders or elsewhere. Most people seem to only understand being male or female or going from one to the other, but not sitting somewhere along the line between them. It's like anything else hurts their brain and makes them upset.

Rocket,
I was about to agree whole heartedly with your post when I realized that I have never really had any negative responses regarding gender queerness from my bi/pansexual friends. Perhaps it is just that people who are somewhere in the middle in terms of sexuality can more easily understand and appreciate the whole gender spectrum.

Re: The Last Closet?
I'm a Bi Eunuch in a hetro relationship. I think you'll start to see more and more hetro Voluntary Eunuch's, but I agree most are homosexual right now. For me it was a submissive thing. I've been dominant in my relationship with my wife for 25 years but two years ago we made the switch to her being the dominant in the relationship (not as easy as you might think). Anyway, our child bearing career is over, the kids are almost grown and I certainly don't want to have more, so I decided to go through with my long time fantasy of being castrated. I do take testosterone, but only when my wife allows it. It's nice being in charge of my hormones instead of them being in charge of me. Anyway from a Eunuch in a hetro relationship perspective I'm very happy with my choice...

Now that you mention it you might be on to something, hopper. Maybe it's a contributing factor that bi people sometimes get shit from both straights and homos over being in the middle, and as a result are more open minded in regards to such things.
Of the LGBT people I know in person, I don't get much shit, maybe a little confusion or friendly teasing from some. It's when they're more free to speak their mind without repercussion that their true opinions come out.

Re: The Last Closet?
My first post was trying to address the topic but probably skirted it. My choice to castrate myself was not really about Gender. Whether that's because I'm in a heterosexual relationship or not I don't know? Mine has mostly been a submissive thing.
