Does anyone know if the producers had two different scripts written for the thirteenth episode, the one we saw because the show was renewed and one they would have used if it had not been renewed? If they did, I would like to read the other script after the show ends.

From what I understand if the show ended in one year then the writers and producers were prepared to end the saga with the source, origins, and purpose of THE DOME being revealed. When the producers got the word of a second season, they departed from the book to create a ongoing series.

In King's book the "creators" of THE DOME are alien children playing poke and see what happens on an innocent town. That's why the four teens in the story find the egg and black out and do all that stuff. Earth teens with alien teens. In the end an adult (I won't tell you which one) gets to talk to the aliens and tells them that all the people are going to die of suffocation thanks to the drug dealers setting fire to all of that propane at once and burning a huge chunk of real estate. HOWEVER

and this is a big HOWEVER,

All of that ending is gone. It's a nice memory and belongs to the trivia files.

The TV SHOW producers have a HIT and they see (guess what, come on, just a teeny tiny guess...)

$$$ dollar $$$ signs $$$

That means an entire new plot has been generated for the next year of THE DOME.

And it has new actors and guest stars (Think about that ! ! ! ! ! !) MAkes you go Hmmmmmmmm? ? ? ?

At this point, I'm along for the ride... Sit back and enjoy mode...

I enjoy looking at Ken Vogel (i think he's sexy)

I like Colin Ford (but he's jail bait, darlings)

I am rooting for Natalie Martinez

And I want them to resurrect Jolene Purdy

Do you know what was the first episode they changed after they learned of the second season?

No, I don't remember the dates of the announcement either.

An adaptation of any book into a movie or TV show requires condensing the story by at least 1/4 to 1/3. That's a rule of thumb for people writing novels, short stories, screenplays, and scripts. Also, characters are lost and combined because in a book a character is only words but on TV or a movie, a character is screen time.

The other big change in a novel is the structure of chapters versus commercial breaks. Chapters vary in length but segments of TV shows between commercial breaks each require some reveal or some climax or some point to be made. A movie has the same structure but without commercials. Movies have less time breaks but between the opening scene and the closing scene the audience has an implied structure that is different than the pacing of a novel.

So UNDER THE DOME was always going to be different on TV.

The best comment I ahve heard recently about such differences was about THE WALKING DEAD which has departed from the story in the graphic novels and gone on its own adventure until a few episodes this past year where the writers worked various portions of the graphic novels into their own storylines. Both Kirkman who writes the novels and the TV writers love the ability to move away from the known and into surprising alternates.

I ahve a thought in mind, a speculation of SEASON TWO:

The question was asked in the last episode "why the dome? Why are you punishing us?" and the answer was "we're protecting you." which implies something not in the novel is going to happen outside THE DOME.

Hi,

this program has a nice idea to start with, but I Wonder how it will continue, I have a feeling it's a bit like LOST they seem to write the next episode while they are doing it !!

I am not sure it can last 5 seasons !!

That is true of movies but not so true with TV miniseries. The Dome is 13 TV hours. That should be about 9.1 real hours. ( 13 * 42 = 546 546 / 60 = 9.1.) Nine hours should be enough time to show a complete short novel.

I have always found Stephen King's stuff a bit too "off the wall" but decided to give this a try. I stopped watching it after 3 episodes.

That happens with a lot of shows. The first ones are new and interesting and then they grow old quickly...

Sometimes a show only lasts one year's worth of episodes.

Time will tell.

In the sequel, a strange virus infects them all and causes them ALL to have zipless anal sex with the first person they see. IT will be called, "UNDER THE DOME...ASS."
