When a wedding happens, there are things to do. Things to buy. Bills to pay.

Having gay marriage, where more money is usually involved at first, at least, is good for the economy.

There are announcements.

Accoutrements to buy.

Rent a church/hall

Pay the minister/official

Rent good clothes

Videographer

Photographer

Music/DJ

Catering dinner/cake

reception hall

Clean up

Car rental (sometimes)

Legal fees

Gas involved/travel

But hey, let's all gripe about it instead. My Godson recently got married, and it was an ordeal. Usually, I just show up and take the pictures and send my bill. This time, we were all ass-deep in the planning and execution of said event. A lot of money changed hands!

As Bush I would have said, "Good for the economy!" Sadly, I've had to agree with him and Moi this morning.

I remember a conversation I had with a coworker back around 1987 or '88...

He said "When the price of the wedding reached $18,000 I offered her the money in cash to elope and she said no."

I said: "that's a lot of money"

He said: "And Daddy will pay for whatever she wants."

His final cost was well into the 20 thousands of dollars.

Mine cost me $165, $60 was for the cake, Family and a few friends in my mother n laws family room.

of course that was 40 years ago today I am sure it would cost at least $250.

I hear you loud and clear... but having seen and had to attend several weddings from college to now and for friends, family, and mere acquaintances, I can say that sensible spending for a wedding is an oxymoron, a contradiction.

Weddings are status things and the day the Bride will always remember. They buy status. Obvious and extravagant consumption buys status

Don't blame me. I think it's foolish too...

BTW - There's a 50% chance that marriage will end in divorce in 5 years.

Unless you just get a ready made cake at the grocery store bakery, you're not going to get a cake for $250.
