I Want to say this:

a) I don't "dislike" Paula Deen. I don't necessarily "like" her either. I watched her cooking shows periodically over the years and wondered as she and her husband and sons grew in bulk and got fatter how anyone wanted to follow her lead. I looked to other cooks to eat healthy. But "hate" is not a word I'd use to describe her.

b) "

" seriously? Do people of that age use the other racial slurs and would that make it right?

My point was that there are lots of words that are proscribed and banned by society. I don't care that Rap Singers use the "N" word and there inability to act properly is not going to make me act crude, rude and idiotic. I will not introduce my lady-friends as "cunts" or my black friends as "n" because some fool RAPS the word. I have grown up and I am an adult and I do understand proper behavior. We are not fools and buffoons.

c) "Our heroes have feet of clay" --- not at all. I hold people in public positions to a higher standard of civilized behavior. Paula stepped down to hurt her employee. she created a banquet that restored the Old South of slavery and oppression. I stand with the Declaration of Independence on this one -- All men are created equal -- and scorning her for idolizing and imitating slave cultures is justified.

d) What this episode illustrates is a great propensity to let racism slip into society as "southern culture" and Paula Deen has just made herself a public example. What this exposes is the "easy" way to justify prejudice that we all see exists. I did not damn her to hell, or demand incarceration, or call for her stoning.

What I did say was that she deserved our disapproval. And I am disapproving of her actions.

By The Way: when you say "I'm not going to (insert argument) BUT (insert words) ... You are commenting and you are doing what you just said you aren't going to do. It's so amazing how inconsistent that one statement is to introduce an argument. If you "Aren't Going to Argue" then don't say a word.

One Last Thing: Arguing with me isn't going to change my position but it will cause you to defend her racist behavior. There is no justification for racism -- believing that one race should be subservient to another -- with a banquet like Paula's... My stars and garter and all unholy epithets -- If Paula Deen's husband so adored the plantation culture and she staged that banquet out of pure love what would she do if her hubby adored the KKK and thought Lynchings were justified? HAve the waiters wear white robes and stage a hanging with dessert? Think of what you are trying to defend.

I'm reposting this link because I believe that for the most part people have only gotten one side of the story.

As considering noted it is amazing how virulent the condemnation of Paula Deen has been.

A lot of people seem to detest her, enough to form some sort of mob that is working to get

her banned from appearing on TV. Not directly of course but by making it too painful for anyone

to sponsor her.

So what, for instance, about the word "kike". Is it equally evil? It is connected with the murder

of 6 million or so people.

When I was a youth both nigger and kike were in common use in the parts of the country where

I lived. It represented a sort of willful ignorance, but it certainly didn't rise to the notion of

support for slavery or genocide.

Is Paula just the last dummy to use that word in public?

It seems the answer to you quests would be no, as the word is still in common use in Hiphop, and that fact that she hasn't even used to word recently. I think it is as you say, people just have a mob mentality.

Paula Deen’s Discrimination Lawsuit Dismissed

by Tina Nguyen 5:33 pm, August 23rd

http://www.thebraiser.com/paula-deens-d ... dismissed/

The long national food nightmare of the Summer of Racism 2013 is over: a judge dismissed the discrimination lawsuit filed against Paula Deen and her family, which had nearly destroyed the prominent celebrity chef’s career. (Good job, Friday news dump.)

A dismissal order was posted by Savannah news site WTOC, noting that “both parties have mutually agreed to dismiss the case and a settlement agreement has been filed with the court.” Once a judge signs the order, the entire sordid legal deal — which cast Deen in a negative light after a deposition revealed that she commonly used racist language — will be completely done with, legally speaking.

And we are so happy to hear that. Honestly, why didn’t Deen settle with Lisa T. Jackson to begin with? There were so many instances where Deen could have just given Jackson a massive chunk of money to drop the lawsuit (and a ton of people agree with us), but instead she just had to stick it out and make a bunch of ridiculous videos where she tried to explain and justify her bizarre actions (not just her racism, but her poor PR handling of the entire scandal.) Paula Deen has no one to blame for blowing her own scandal out of proportion but herself (to the point that it’s now a Law & Order: SVU episode.)

By doing so, she simply fed us, the rabid internet beast, until even we got sick of writing about it. It is done. We are finished. We are going to drink some Johnnie Walker Black and close this chapter of our lives forever. Please, no one leak a photo of Deen wearing a Klan outfit to any news outlet.

(Unless it’s us. Send all non-Photoshopped, Klan-regalia’d Deen photos to our Tips section.)
