Question for story readers

I'd like to make some changes to the menu but I'm having troubles and wanted to ask a question to those that read the stories rather than just do things.

Question: How bummed out would folks be if they absolutly, positively had to have javascript enabled to view the story menus?

Reason why I ask is that in the past we used some very un-webstandards means of showing the story menus. We have changed that but it limits the way we can display our menu. I'd like to try something that gives the best of both worlds but can't do so without javascript.

Please let me know your thoughts.

The thing that worries me about java is it seem to always be vulnerable to viruses and such. I quit using it and removed it after the last episode a couple of months ago. I was so glad the chat room has an alternative now.

It is javascript, not java itself. They are different things.

As for my opinion - if it does not break horribly when javascript is turned off, then it is ok.

Unless it provides some sort of vastly improved functionality (IE allowing adding of keyword searches, etc.) beyond reorganizing what you have now, I'd leave it alone. I use java only when I have no other choice.

Since I don't know what the change you're trying to accomplish is, I feel as if I cannot give a truly informed opinion.

Since you asked, my vote is NOT to use javascript. Thank you for allowing input, whatever the ultimate outcome may be.

If it gives us more functionality, then I am all for it. Do what you think would work best. I just don't want to have to re-edit all the stories again.

My opinion is also not to use Java since it would cause problems for readers using ipad/iphone.

For those of you who may not have run into this before:

There are 2 plug ins, one for FireFox and one for Chrome called Noscript and Scriptno. They allow you to decide what scripts run on a page, and warn you if a script you do no know about trying to run. I use it to protect my computer from unwanted scripts, and allow those I want. That way we can have our cake (the better scripting menus, etc), and eat it too! (be safe).
