Exterior video cameras
Exterior video cameras
I want to place a couple of outdoor wireless video cameras discretely to catch someone who is vandalizing my yard and tearing down my flag. I'd like to send the feed to a receiver indoors and video record the views. Any input - approaches, equipment, how to proceed, etc.? Novice here. (I know damn well who is doing it, I just have to be able to prove it to get her and her son tagged for vandalism, trespassing, and whatever can get thrown at them. I have to be able to conclusively prove my case because she fucks half the precinct. IAD might like to see some of that...)
Re: Exterior video cameras
We had to deal with some adventurous young men drop-kicking the snack machine. Put a logi-tech camera in a machine to keep it in camera view. The camera was "carrier current" style so it just plugged into the wall outlet. A computer with software and another "carrier current" pickup was in an office 100 feet away. It recorded whenever there was movement and put a "blip" on a timeline graph. Also it uploaded the camera images to the logi-tech website. Young men were caught and escorted out, camera was removed (we don't care what you do with your pineapple as long as you honestly purchase it first).
Seems to me it was about $100 when all was said and done. We just had that one camera but this software would allow 4. Got it on ebay. Best buy should have something like it new. Try to get the 'carrier current' connection because otherwise you will need to install cat5.

Re: Exterior video cameras
So Tal, could I use one of these carrier currents with an extension cord and add a motion sensor light to illuminate the right of way in back of my house? Would it be able to catch something with only the ambient light in the dark?
I'm wanting to catch the grafitti taggers that for some reason seem to tag ONLY the fence behind my house. I work hard to make my own yard a pleasant oasis, but they keep painting the fenced behind the house and ruining my hard work. I'd re-paint the neighbors fence, but all it would do at this point is provide a nice clean surface for the f**ktards to paint again. They are also tagging my fence, so I figure if I can catch them and give it to the police it would help stop them, maybe.

Re: Exterior video cameras
File a complaint with the police that you spotted a bear in your yard, then set out some large traps.
That should do it.
Also, if the grass is good, some thin lumber painted dark green with long nails sticking up out of it works well too.

Re: Exterior video cameras
It would be difficult to claim bear problems as the only bears we have around here are 300 pound men with full beards.
It's also very dry here starting about now, so the grass won't be green much longer and wouldn't hide this stuff very well.
I did have one success, I caught the little bastard throwing rocks into my swimming pool. His parents were not all that happy with what he was doing. In other news, it's a pain in the butt to get rocks out of 10 feet of water.

Re: Exterior video cameras
Good suggestion, if this one is legal. But it needs a major improvement - a friend/foe detection (being hit with a paintball is painful, especially in winter), and the second one - improvement for not shooting in face/head area and aiming for more sensitive spots (like in the balls, if possible

I do not know about local laws, but getting hit with a paintball in the face can cause serious injuries (I fell potential disturbance in legal force).
It was a joke in line with the beartraps (I just stuck DIY sentry gun into Google)
Re: Exterior video cameras
I don't know LT. About the only way is to try. Carrier current is a funny thing and tends not to work through some items. The lights turning on will trigger the recording.
There must be many ways of doing this but this is the one that we have used at work to catch some improprieties.

An easy mistake to make?
Have you spotted any of these creatures lurking about your yard, LT?!
