And Butter's deals with his Hawai'ianness

http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-ep ... ing-native

Synopsis:

Butters’ outrageous behavior is a sign. It's time for him to begin a journey where he will follow in the path of his ancestors. When Butters starts acting out at school, his parents realize it’s time to tell him why he’s not like all of the other kids. He must travel to a foreign place to learn the ways of his people. It will be a difficult trip for a young boy to make alone so Butters chooses Kenny to travel with him to the distant and secluded island of Hawaii.

Real sociology of Hawai'i

With all they've done to poor little Butters, it's a wonder he made it this long.

USGS: Magnitude 5.3 earthquake off Hawaii’s Big Island is felt by people on Oahu, Maui

PAHALA, Hawaii — The U.S. Geological Survey is revising the magnitude of an earthquake off the southeast coast of Hawaii to 5.3.

Tuesday afternoon’s earthquake was centered about 34 miles southeast of Pahala on the Big Island, at a depth of about 25 miles. Officials say it’s not expected to generate a tsunami.

The USGS reported earlier that the quake’s magnitude was 5.6.

People as far away as Maui and Oahu reported weak shaking to the USGS. The Oahu Department of Emergency Management says some areas may have experienced strong shaking.

🙇 An earthquake, near an island. An island with an active volcano. And all those fifties Hollywood movies.

And it was felt up the island chain to Maui and Oahu. So when the big island does a crustal subduction, it drags the whole chain with it ?

Something to 💡 after 2 AM while sleep seems so distant a feeling.

Aloha Oy !

http://news.yahoo.com/storms-aplenty-hu ... 55817.html

Storms Aplenty, But Hurricanes Rare in Hawaii

Times they are a changin' with higher humidity due to decrease trade winds.

Tropical Storm Flossie is expected to make landfall in Hawaii today (July 29), battering the state's black sand beaches and tall, tropical volcanoes with 45 mph (75 kph) winds and localized rainfall of up to 15 inches (38 centimeters).

Though it may not seem like it to those living on the mainland, in the Hawaiian Islands, Pacific tropical storms are pretty common events, said Steve Businger, an atmospheric scientist at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. "There have been several in the 20 years I've lived here. They're not so terribly rare," Businger told LiveScience. (Tropical storms have winds between 39 and 65 mph [63 to 105 kph].)
