Splitting mpeg downloads

Post by Cutme (imported) »

Hello Altogether,

I tried to download at Yahoo groups long mpeg files of 3,9MB. Unfortunately I have still an analogue phone net, and so they kicked me out after having downloaded only 2MB, because I’am blocking the server capacity for too long time. Does anybody know how I can download only the missing part, or how it’s possible to split the download down in several parts of about 1,5MB?

Thanks in advance for your kind assistance.

Best regards

Herbert!

Try something like NetAnts.

It's one example of a Downloadmanager and as most of them it's extensively packed with advertising but therefore "free".

(Should be a rewarding task to find one without...)

It won't help you this time though. :D

Such a programm splits up the file and downloads it in serveral threads at the same time thus speeding up.

Another effect of this is, that you can always (?) resume partial downloads.

But those ads are annoying...

(You know, they can, at least, track your surfing habits with that.)

Hi, i do those downloads with Go!Zilla. It's free and manage u downlaod. You can make more than two ones, it always start at the end of last download so its easy to finish if the line is broken.

These free programs that are loaded with ads do just that ... they spy on you. GO!Zilla is notorious for this, as is Gator. Download Accellerator is just as bad. Most of these things tell the host where you've been, how long you were there, the IP of the site, your IP, etc., etc. They're not worth the time.

My suggestion on downloading large MPG's and such is to find a friend with cable or DSL who can download it in a snap. Then use something like ICQ which WILL resume and have HIM file it over to you overnight as you sleep. I have done this a few times, and it works fine.

One way to find and remove spyware from things like GO!Zilla is to get the program called ADAWARE from Download.com or Tucows. I think you'll be amazed at what it flushes out of your computer. It's free, and was written up by a guy who got pissed off that he was being spied on. Sort of like one of those revenge programs. I've used it for years.

Remember, there's no free lunch and if it sounds too good to be true it usually is.

UPDATE TO THIS POST:

I just downloaded Ad-Aware software and if you search @ download.com make sure that you type in ad-aware or the search will come up empty
