I could answer some of the questions on here, but I have refrained since reading ahead would spoil some people, but THIS, I can answer, Paolo...

With the long summers, (and thus growing seasons) they typically stock up, eat through that, then begin to starve. Stories are told of mothers who smother their babies because it is a more merciful death than starving, and cannibalism DOES happen, although if a noble person catches you, they would execute you, and then let all that valuable meat go to waste. 8)

This coming winter in the series, however bodes especially ill because the war of the houses has disrupted common folks abilities to grow crops, and it's been an unusually long summer, which means, a longer than normal winter is looming, and then there's the white walkers that only come out ever thousand years or so. It's been so long that no one really believes there is a danger, and the Nights Watch has been reduced to a couple of towers of actively manned garrisons, (down from if memory serves, about two dozen fully manned garrisons in the past) and at the current stopping point where the books are at in the series, the rest of the world has STILL not pulled their heads out of their asses regarding this.

One of the questions that is gripping the readers of GAME OF THRONES is will George RR Martin finish the series before he dies? It's not that he's sick its that he writes real slow.

That was the reason I quit reading Stephen King, when it was the waiting game for the next installment in "The Dark Tower" series.

good picture.

"Game of Thrones" is getting the Mad magazine treatment.

The cover of the magazine features its usual cover star -- Alfred E. Neuman -- in the cloak of Season 1 character Ned Stark.

Mad took their own twist on the Iron Throne, adding a toilet in place of the seat that's known for cutting its inhabitants (because it's made of melted down swords).

Inside the mag is Mad's "Game of Groans," with cartoonish drawings of the cast of characters from the show's three seasons, including Ned, King Robert Baratheon, Bran Stark, Daenerys Targaryen and Melisandre's creepy shadow baby, who took down Renly Baratheon in Season 2.

The issue hits newsstands on April 30.

Game of Thrones - I've never read the books or seen the show. Worth it?

Similar to Star Trek,

One is either a Throney or they are not.

Or is it Thronie?

Moi

Watch Mad Men first.

Dr. Rosen looks suspiciously like the creator, Weiner.

Caution -- Spoiler Alert!

In tonight's GOT episode Theon Greyjoy is threatened with ... Well, I'm not sure if it's castration or penectomy. Some of the message-boards (which include people who read the books) are just as unsure, but one of the prevalent theories is that -- given his torturers predilection for flaying that might have been part of the process. If the scene was true-to-form for this sadist, he would have flayed his cock slowly until Theon begged for it to be cut-off to ease his pain. None of this is shown on TV, of course. And it would be medically ...unlikely...at the very least. Still -- it might be of interest to some folks on this site.

I had understood it as penectomy.

But, that may be due to personal preference

:dong: gone ?

Moi

I am a Thronie :)

Watched the episode again. All speech is regarding his cock.

Not one reference to his balls.

>>Here's what one reviewer says:

But before the craziness of Harrenhal, we will experience just a fraction of the true lunacy that Theon is dealing with. And, you know, Theon is definitely one of the least sympathetic characters, but watching Theon get tortured like this is like actually being tortured yourself. Well, or not. Because we're not actually getting parts of our bodies cut right off. But so anyway, after a tracking shot that shows the flayed skin on Theon's extremities, we see that Theon is now being cared for now by two beautiful women. His skin is really a mess though. It has been flayed in many, many places. But not all the places! Oh, no. There seems to be one more place left. But first, as tends to happen in torture pits, both women get naked and start to have sex with Theon. There is a lot of sexy talk about how Theon is "famous for his cock" and that everyone talks about it. Which, really? Is that all part of the mind game? It's so weird.

It gets weirder though because, out of nowhere, a horn blows. And, no, that's not a euphemism. It's Theon's captor, who disrupts everything with his trumpet and then whacks Theon in the face with it. Then, the guy pulls out his flaying knife and says, "Your famous cock must be so precious to you. Would you say it's your most precious part?"

"Mercy. Mercy, please." Theon is scrambling around on the floor, trying to get away. But he can't. He will never escape this hellhole.

His tormenter explains, "This is mercy. I'm not killing you, I'm just making a few alterations." Goodbye, Theon's famous cock. Goodbye.
