Has anyone here tried the commercially available

"No Sugar Added" Ice Cream

Or were they just mouthing "off" rather then "in".

The Vanilla is pretty reasonable.

The Klondike Bar No Sugar Added is better then the regular.

The trick is finding one that is also NOT Fat Reduced.

Pontificate as repliers might - nothing beats personal experience.

Breyer's Carb Smart is OK, as if Prairie Farms. I have tried the Klondike Bars. They're good, but seriously overpriced, as is Breyer's. Around here, the PF half gallon is about $5, so I seldom get it unless it's on sale. Very limited flavors, too. Breyer's is about $7 for a not-quite half gallon, so I've not had it often. The Kroger brand NSA ice cream is terrible.

I'll agree with Paolo on the ice creams. Safeway carries the Carb Smart under their house brand here – a full half gallon for $2.99, but only in two flavors. It's almost as good as the full-sugar variety. I've yet to meet a "sugar-free" ice cream that I'd willingly try a second time.

Prairie Farms has Neapolitan, Rocky Road, Butter Pecan, and Vanilla Fudge Swirl. Sometimes you'll see chocolate. You do have to defrost it for about minutes before you can scoop it. It does whip nicely into "soft serve". It's probably the best one I've had, but then again, choices here are limited. Edys makes a few flavors, but overpriced and I have to drive 30 miles to get it. Not that good, and a higher carb count.

I have never found a sugar free chocolate syrup that I like. They're all bitter. I've even mixed a cup of Splenda into it, and it didn't help. Now if they made no-sugar Magic Shell, that would be cool!

When I was a kid and we used to travel from the eastern suburbs of Monroeville through Pittsburgh to the western suburb of McKees Rocks to visit relatives, we passed ISALY's ICE CREAM and lunch meats.

They made the original Klondikes with real ingredients. Isaly's was a treat with each trip. Freshly made, rich ice-cream in pints, quarts, gallons, all flavors and the Klondikes and Ice-Cream Sandwiches.

They also had a "chipped-chopped" Ham that was to die for.

And you could warm in in a batch of barbecue sauce and put it on a bun. Food of the Gods for a kid...

TO this day, people in Pittsburgh ask for certain hams to be "chipped-chopped" rather than merely chipped. Every supermarket complies with that request.

I only claim a full fat, No Sugar Added Vanilla Ice Cream is pretty decent, competitive with the real thing.

Chocolate, even Triple Chocolate is not so good or competitive with the real thing.

All other flavors are in between.

I just bought some No Sugar Added Popsicle brand Fudge Pops and Cherry, Orange & Grape Popsicle.

They are pretty decent. I am a regular for them.

I do miss frozen Pillsbury Brownies. So easy and chocolatey.

desert 2: dark chocolate: rich polyphenol with high concentrations of iron

desert 3: red grapes: skin contains reservatrol. Even better drink red wine. A sip of pure vintage red wine keeps heart unclogged and going. Plus deccelerates rate of aging.

desert 4: fruit of all sort. even wild ones. don't worry about the sugars. most fruits are high GI but bc the fruit is manily 90% water your good to go. watermelon , oranges, cacti fruit, noni, pear etc.....(plus sugars are nat and not refined)

kelp and seaweed. there are some health stores that sell dried kelp chips. help protect you mitochondria. Alternative to potato chips

Btw if you eat milk chocolate you gain nothing bc its refined, striped from most of its antioxidant properties. Get the real stuff pure 100% coco beans

You can always add stevia or mix this in dust form with your frozen yogurt (I alternate between cinammon and chocolate)

Btw guys another rant. Plz eat your probiotic yougurt. The number one loss of our good bacterial culture is bad foods and antibiotics.

Eat grass fed beef(im trying to cut this from my diet but I can be guilty of it from time to time and yeah it's not as tasty P) and try to stay healthy to avoid medications.

Antibiotics fuck with your immune system, raise the resistant strain cultures making you more prone to deadlier infections. Good bacteria decrese the chances your body from acquiring shit like necrotizing fascitis(flesh eating gram negative zero bacteria) and potent strains like MRSA.

So if you plan to go to thailand to get snipped plz pack your body with probiotics.

I am a fan of the "No Sugar Added" Ice Cream on the market.

In the brands where the fat content is not reduced it is very acceptable in taste and feel

as long as we stay with Vanilla. For some reason the "chocolate" or even "triple chocolate" chocolate

flavor does not come out as well in the "No Sugar Added" line.

Although not a fan of Klondike bars, their no sugar added is flavorful and better then their regular product.

Watch for a No Sugar Added Ice Cream product in a store near you. Carb Smart is above average.

For an explanation, next time you are in the ice cream aisle at the megamart, check out the ingredient list on a premium real full sugar ice cream like Hagen Diaz against the various low sugar/fat ones. The real stuff should be mainly milk, cream, eggs, flavorings and a few stabilizers. The diet stuff will have a bunch of additional chemicals to try to mimic the effects of the real stuff. For me I would rather eat much less of the really good stuff, than a lot of the fake.
