Harem by Dora Levy Mossanen is a new book that has enough graphic details of eunuchs to make many of the stories here tame in comparison. This well written and researched book includes many of the facts about eunuchs in 19th century Persia from the fact some eunuchs were casterated more than once, to the fact that the fortunite ones were given back what was removed from them to keep in a special jar to be buried with them so they would be accepted in Heaven. Really an interesting read

With chinese eunuchs the second castration was often ordered by the emporer.They believed that something could grow back or that magic could be invoked to re-grow lost genitals.It was also a useful ruse used to get rid of eunuchs who were high powered political figures who were maybe allied with a competing political faction.The second castration was usualy a death warrent as the re cutting (shaving)would create massive bleeding.Unruly Eunuchs could be brought back in line by ordering inspections to check if anything was growing
