I cut the cord - or to be more explicit, the cable - this week. I took back my cable box and told them I no longer wanted cable TV. I have FIOS internet through another company.

From now on, I'll make do with over-the-air TV and what I can get over the Internet such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu.

I was already paying for Netflix and Amazon Prime. Hulu costs me an additional 7.95/mo, and if I don't find I need it, I'll cancel it. Cable was costing me $110/mo. I find I'm not missing cable at all, and I will enjoy the extra $100 or so a month to spend on other things.

I've found all kinds of good things on Netflix to watch. I just finished four seasons of The Tudors, which I particularly enjoyed, and now, I'm watching the Walking Dead series, which so far, I find interesting.

Way to go Slammr, I wish I could talk some sense into my parents. But meh whatever. Personally I find cable is dead for me. I keep telling my parents that one fricken channel doent justify the price of having to purchase various and problem is it's binding cause your pay cable as a package that comes with unneccesary crap channels.

The internet is the way to go. I want google to come up with something great. Be great if they one day could become a tv provider

I got rid of cable 5 years ago. Don't miss it at all.

When I turned it off they were all "doom and gloom" and how could I possibly live without it. I have to say I'm doing quite well without that $125 per month bill, thank you very much.

It may be illegal/questionable to download movies, but I see sharing anything, that was aired on public TV as reasonable.

We have never had cable in the 17 years we've been in this house. Don't miss all the garbage.

Never had it, never will.

Back in the day, we got 19 signatures to run cable out here. They wanted $3k from each to install it. No one signed up. Then dish came along. Everyone got that. Well, I didn't. They ran cable out here 3 years ago, made a mess of my yard doing it, all for ONE person who worked there. No one signed up for it.

I called and asked about their packages. Their famous $100/month package was going to cost me nearly $200 after all the fees and taxes. AND they wanted $200 to install Internet, and I BUY the modem. And $200 to install TV.

Needless to say, I still don't have it.

My local phone company supplies my home phone, internet and Dish TV for a little over $100. I enjoy a couple of comedies, So You Think You Can Dance and HGTV. I also will not miss Once Upon A Time and Smash. My work hours vary and so the DVR means never having to miss a favorite show. I do not spend too much time watching TV since I prefer listening to music. The two princess college students in the apartment below would prefer I watch more TV.

Paolo and his neighbors could have had cable for "only" 3K each. My wife and I live out at the very end of a long telephone line. Dial-up, when the line is wet, was running 17 BYTES (not K) per second. My closest neighbor contacted Comcast about running cable out here. They offered to do so for only $17,000.00 each! We now have satellite (from different providers) for both TV and Internet. (We're on the wrong side of the hill to get any direct reception and satellite Internet is FAR too slow for TV.)

Game of Thrones starting was a consideration, and I would have liked to see the Vikings on the History Channel, but neither of them are worth $110 a month. I'll wait for the DVD to watch Thrones I guess, and I imagine that if I want to watch Vikings bad enough I'll find a way to do it.
