Spartacus: War of the Damned

The last season of Spartacus begins Friday night and is replayed lots during the weekend.

It's on STARZ...

It's no longer a story f gladiators but a blood-drenched retelling of the Second (?) Punic War when the real Spartacus rebelled and led an army of slaves and gladiators against Rome.

I predict heads will roll, blood will flow, lots of bloody deaths in slow motion by swords and spears. DId I say blood will flow?

I agree that this should be the last season. As a critic pointed out, Spartacus was Upstairs Downstairs with blood sport, naked bodies, raging sex, and lots of killing, spilling of blood, hot sweaty muscular men with their buttcheeks exposed and their man-parts dangling, and blood, lots of blood, really lots of blood.

But back to this being the last season -- why reinvent history - the Romans win - that's the reason.

They might have played the gladiatorial seasons longer but those were steamy soap operas with gladiatorial blood sports thrown in.

And what are they going to do to top the last season's finale where Ilithia gives birth and lucretia gives her a helping hand (Now that was an ending to end all endings), where Ilithia saves Glaber her estranged husband from death at the hands of his mistress (you have no idea how far my eyes opened at that scene), and the gladiator fight in a circle of fire... Too many good things to ruin with endless story lines.

The last Spartacus I saw was Kirk Douglas's in the old movie of that name. I hadn't heard of the TV show, but your description provoked some heavy breathing. If only the gladiators wore tight black leathers the picture would be complete.

There is lots of nudity in Spartacus on STARZ.

They talked about making the first series and how much male nudity would be on the screen.

Plus blood being spilled. It is a very violent soap opera at times.

They don't wear tight black leathers but they do wear very skimpy little white garments. If you like muscular, sweaty hunks that fight and die bloody deaths this show is for you. Lots of sex, gay, straight, orgies, whatever with both male and female nudity. But the dialog.....its so bad its funny. (Still prefer Andy Whitfield as Spartacus. RIP Andy.)

Episode two and Julius Caesar arrives on the scene to pair with Crassus. Julius is a blond and a pretty boy. ANd he gets naked, I mean bare-ass, butt-naked.

Spartacus plans to take control of a city. Audacious.

They say "fuck" a lot in these shows and they all look filthy, dirty and cruddy. It must have been a most aromatic age...
