I had several telefon conversations with one and she said that I do absolutly not fulfill the Benjamin Harris criteria and she can not give me the letter...

If she called them the Harry Benjamin Standards, she is clearly working off a very old version. You are much more likely to fit under the CURRENT VERSION, version seven of the Standards of Care of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, which recognizes genders outside the binary and recognizes much greater fluidity. It has been several years since they were called the "Harry Benjamin Standards."

Why not get another letter from a different psychologist? It's not that difficult if you already have one. My urologist required me to see a psychologist before she'd do my reroute (perineal urethrostomy), so I did it. If you really want to be castrated, then do what they ask, you'll be glad you did. You can state you're not sure you want a vaginoplasty, just an orchi.

the reason why I seek castration is that in my age the male component is becoming an unpleasent fact and I rather be without it.

I have heard that from other mature men also. Thanks for your answer and I wish you the very best of luck in getting castrated.

In my view, physicians (including psychiatrists and urologists) and psychologists who believe that you do not meet the WPATH Version 7 Standards of Care, as a gender nonconforming person, simply do not understand the standards in their present form.

Perhaps you can help some psychologist or psychiatrist or urologist become more competently educated?

Giving a copy of the current WPATH standards to some psychologists and/or psychiatrists might awaken the learning process in someone who will properly understand your needs and how to get your needs properly met.

I would like to thank you all for your inputs. I have been busy making tel. calls and try to get a clear picture. Here is a summary of the results:

1) Dr. Reed has changed the requirements.I was told by a lady of his staff that now you need a letter from a psychiatrist wich states " expressis verbis"

I Dr. xxx recommend an orchiectomy for Mr. NNN for the following reason XYZ. They do not accept a personal request.

There are obviously 2 different approaches out. No. 1 the recmmendation for surgery and No. 2 a statement that the peron requesting an orchiectomy is sane and

knows what he is doing. I was told I need the second option which my psychiatrist gave me.

2) I called Dr. Lief"s office and got a very kind response. He castrates men on demand and they accepted my reasoning.Smoothie36,the fee has been changed to $3000. Thank you all again for all your info and I will decide what to do.

3) There seems to be 2 fee categories. I found a medical web site a while ago where for an orchiectomy a fee of $ 1500-$2000 was recommendet for cancer patients.

For a non cancer castration the range is $2350-$5000.

I have rechecked with the office of Dr. Lief. The fee for Dr. Lief is $3000. there is an additional charge for the surgery center of $ 1600 plus anesthesia of $ 400.

The total cost is appr. $ 5000. For your info.

great information all, Now I can plan for castration within a year, sack removal and penecto later. Desire is fully re-routed nullo by age 60.
