Christmas Shopping? Don't go to Wal-Mart

You might get shot! Two shootings of alleged shoplifters in as many weeks.

Hmm... when I worked at Wal-Mart, we weren't allowed to do anything at all about shoplifters, let alone shoot them. All we could do was ask to see their receipt if we suspected them, or ask nicely "did you mean to buy this too?" if they were hiding something. And if they wouldn't show it, there was nothing we could do except get their license plate number and report it to a manager.\

Side note: I'd still avoid Wal-Mart for Christmas shopping, because they pay all of their employees, many of which have kids to feed and houses to pay for, $8 per hour with a raise of $0.30 per year if they're lucky, and they work almost all of them less than 30 hours a week so that they don't have to provide things like health insurance or a decent amount of paid vacation. (We only had TWO full-time cashiers at our store.) After working there, and hearing some of the stories from my fellow employees about their home life, I can confidently say that Wal-Mart is one of the prime reasons why this country's economy is in the crapper right now. There were a lot of people working at my store who used to work for local businesses that paid a lot more, but then they were driven out of business and had to work at Wal-Mart because there was nowhere else for them to work.

Oh, and did I mention that during company training, they actually had us sit through an anti-union video, talking about how "well, we have an open-door policy here at Wal-Mart, so why would you want a union making your decisions for you when you can just talk to a manager about your concerns?" *barf* I feel completely ripped off after working there. Now I work as a poker dealer at Cleveland's new casino, and I'm making over twice as much money doing work that is half as emotionally-draining, and when we unionized the company basically didn't give a damn, saying "we've worked with unions before at our other properties, so we really don't care. You guys do what you want, we're willing to go with it."

I've recently started avoiding Wal-Mart and I can say I don't miss it. Maybe I'm spending a bit more, but it's worth it to me to support people and help them make a living wage.

Somebody is gonna get sued. No matter how bad it is, shoplifting is NOT a capital offense.

IT is about like the "stand your ground" fucking horseshit in Florida.

Of course, if she was trying to run over him with her car then it would be self defense. If he jumped in front of her car like he was "Dirty Harry" then that would NOT be self defense. In any case it should have nothing to do with Wal Mart.

We need more information and we don't need the news media spinning this thing into another riot.

A friend was a greeter at the local Walmart. He was informed that they could do nothing to stop a shoplifter except call the police after getting approval from management. He was working a night shift filling in for someone. A pair of local punks went out his door carrying a 46 inch digital television. He watched, reported it to the office and then gave the police a report when they finally arrived 20 minutes later.

He could not even follow them into the parking lot to get a description of the vehicle. This all is because a shoplifter in Florida killed an 80 year old greeter who tried to stop him. Walmart got sued by the victim's relatives.

The original local Walmart got too crowded for me. The new one is huge and unattractive.

I did go into the Robinson Walmart because my Mother wanted something (I don't remember) and jeepers was it huge and crowded and not any fun to shop. Black Friday in the malls didn't bother me as much.

Both Walmarts, women in shopping carts would block an aisle and not move back or to either side to let me pass (my wheels are 28 inches wide and 46 inches long and most people think I'm going to run them over if I put that silly sneer on my face. Not Walmart Shoppers. You move for them. They never move for you.

Eff that horseshit, I can shop anywhere more peaceful.

As for security guards -- my Dad managed a bowling alley and he hired off-duty cops to be around 4 nights a week. You don't get security on the cheap, yanno.

That's what Walmart does -- everything on the cheap.

I have found that the people that work for WalMart seem to be wanting to help you for the most part, but I hate shopping there, when I was working I did not, but now with limited income there are things that they have that are just cheaper then anyplace else. sigh

Dave, get some bigger wheels and run them down.

Seriously, yes, Wal-mart shoppers can be very rude in that manner.

Umm... It has everything to do with Wal-Mart since they are the ones that hired the security goon that shot this person.

I refuse to shop at an establishment that pays its workers less than a living wage, less than what they could make panhandling, and leaves them dependent on government assistance.
