Star Trek - Into Darkness

I would recommend you skip the original 1960's Star Trek, these were so bad and yes I was one who picketed to get them to run a third year.

Come now, there were some really excellent episodes in the original series... only a few were total crap, most were at least watchable, but the ones that were truly excellent, those were ground-breaking in terms of what good sci-fi should be. You totally have to watch at least "City on the Edge of Forever," "The Trouble With Tribbles," and "Balance of Terror." The average quality of Star Trek: The Next Generation was indeed a bit higher, but I wouldn't dis the original series by any means. It's a timeless classic, even if it is extremely cheesy at times.

I agree the trouble with tribbles was the best one of the first round, taken right out of a Heinlein story the Rolling Stones.

I enjoyed Deep Space 9 but it went downhill quite a bit after they brought Worf aboard.

I recall when the reboot came out many fans of Star Trek were appalled by the treatment of the franchise by a Star Wars fanboy - JJ Abrams. I found it very refreshing that there appeared to be no "sacred cows" in the reboot. The trailer does look to have elements of Khan, but given what Abrams did lat time, I'll hold any judgment until I see it. Now about that Man of Steel trailer...

DS9 was great when the story finally started going.

The Dominion War was well thought out.

And the Breen.

Most of all the later seasons allowed Garak, a simple tailor to blossom.

The evolution of Quark when his business was taken down by the Ferengi banking authorities

and the realization he had "friends". And when he had to transgender an episode and when re-transgendered

took back a pad loaded with Umra techniques from a female employee he was leaning on for sexual favors.

The Planet Faranginar was fun too. An no slips of latinum required to view.

I am surprised that series has missed the repeat circuit.

Or that they cancelled ST Enterprise which lent so much to Vulcan before Human influence and the

Andorians.

The reboot gives them a clean slate, they are not tied into 30 years of bad scripts they can go anywhere and do anything. They are only bound by their imagination.
