Re: Castration and penectomy in Thailand
I actually flew first class to Japan once, but my employer was paying for it, and it was a free upgrade from business class. It was nice; that's for sure. Don't know whether I'd want to pay $12,000 for it, though.

Checked with a travel agent at dinner. He said $1800 round trip, max, 1st class, chicago to bangkok

Enter Chicago, IL in "from" field, Bangkok in "to". I put in random dates of 1/14/13 for leave and 3/20/13 for return, and clicked first class. Hit search. Low price was $11,512 up to $22,180.

Just did. $1200 basic to $5900 lap of luxury.

You searched "economy". At top left of page it says "New flight search" If it isn't open already, click "more options", 'at bottom of window it says "Class". Default is economy, which is where your figures come from. Instead click "First Class." You should get the same figures I quoted; I got the same figures you quoted by running "economy".

I don't know what you guys that are quoting $1200 for a first class ticket from Chicago to Bangkok are smoking, but it must be wonderful. Perhaps you'll find DOMESTIC inside the US First Class ticket for that price. This is from someone who used to do a LOT of flying. Business class would be awesome on a transcontinental flight. I know on United (which has generally horrible service) you get a lay flat seat in Business class from San Francisco to Frankfurt, Germany on that non-stop flight. Not sure what it would cost, but I'm certain it's a heck-uv-a-lot more than $1200.
If you can find that price for ORD to BKK in First Class, I'll be happy to provide you the winning numbers for the next mega millions jackpot.

Just checked. Today, 25 December, 2012. Predicated on a 15 January departure returning on 29 January. The published fare is
$15,233. First Class, Round Trip. This was on United Airlines,
British Airways, Lufhthansa and THY all had similar fares where they had first class.

I sit here corrected. There's no way in hell I would pay that kind of fare.

I use mileage upgrades for those kinds of flights. It's well worth it.

Most of these seats are filled by people traveling on business discounts or other passes, so the full fare is paid by almost no one. --FLO--
