Les Miserables 2012
http://www.lesmiserablesfilm.com/
I never go to musicals. When I was a kid, they made a bunch of musicals and my parents dragged me to them. I thought musicals were designed by adults to ruin the movie experience for a kid. I saw a bunch of them before I was old enough to go by myself and to choose what movie I wanted to see.
Note: this was before TV, computers, and the Internet, so my entertainment choices were limited. I had to do things like: get books from the library, listen to the radio, play board and card games, and play outside. Heaven forbid that a kid would have to do that today.
Anyway, to this day, I like going to the movies. I rarely watch movies at home, now, even though I have a big screen TV, Netflix, and literally hundreds of DVDs, many I haven't yet watched. I like watching movies on the big screen at a theater. I like the whole movie experience, popcorn and all. I didn't go to theaters for a long time, because I couldn't hear the sound well enough to understand what was being said. A good pair of hearing aids has changed that.
Back to the purpose of this post: I'm going to see this movie, even though - maybe even because - it's a musical. I'm entranced by what I've seen of it, so far.

I have every intention of seeing this between Christmas and New Years.
It looks good in the previews and I haven't heard a bad word about it.

Re: Les Miserables 2012
REALLY looking forward to this. I've seen Les Mis three times live in the theater, and still love the show to death, so I've been waiting for a film adaption of the musical for a long time.
What's really intriguing about this rendition is that they're going to be recording the songs in real-time rather than in a studio. With traditional musical films, the audio is recorded long before anything is shot, and then added back in over the acting. But with this film, what you see on screen is the actual musical performance, live. This will hypothetically allow for much greater emotion, much more immediacy in the singing, much more emotional sincerity. If it is as good as it can be, this could be a truly ground-breaking film in the musical genre. My excitement couldn't be higher!

Re: Les Miserables 2012
When I drive and turn on SIRIUS XM... Saturdays are my days for the BROADWAY channel and they always have some women with a big, operatic voice singing "I Dreamed a Dream" ...
The preview has an entirely different version. Anne Hathaway sings in a small, very emotional and despairing voice.
Just the thought that I'm going to hear a different interpretation than the PBS fundraisers in Albert Hall London is a thrill.
That alone excites me and makes me want to see the movie.

Re: Les Miserables 2012
Les was the inspector, right?
Maybe I can trick G3 (now 15) into this one? He'll have no clue what it is.
I wonder if Susan Boyle is doing the soundtrack?

Re: Les Miserables 2012
Saw the musical on Broadway years ago and loved it. The trailer looks good. Can't wait.

I have the sound track and a copy of it on stage, just the songs no acting, I love the music and hope I get to see it in the movie, problem is nobody I know likes musicals, least of all to go with me. sigh, however I will buy the dvd when it comes out.
