Generally I do not believe in ghost nor UFO's. As it is so humane to feel fear in the environment where there is poor visibility, like darkness, fog, etc. Also it is enough to tell a story for a people to start to see ghosts. As fear sets in and slightest (natural) disturbances are interpreted as a sign of unnatural. I have noticed similar paterns in me, so I know how to react. For example there was an old house I lived in for few years and it was noisy one. It had its own noises you notice in the darkness. One could belive that these are ghosts, but no instead of giving in for my imagination I tracked down the sources of the sounds, snd they were pretty natural. For example, there was antenna that started to make sounds when wind was from the right direction and had right strenght. So it is all up to what you believe. It is also very humane to try to find a reason for things and events that seem to be unsolvable.

So far I can tell you only one such an unsolvable event. It happened in another old house. I was on the second floor in my room. Doors were all locked, so noone could enter the house or walk in other parts than our flat on second floor. My mother and brother slept in other room while I was reading a book. It was about midnight and I hadn't a spooky mood. I felt safe and sound reading that book. And suddenly I heard clear knocking on our flat door which was locked. It was so clear, sudden and obvious that I couldn't think what else could it have been. My attention immediately focused on door and from natural instincts I froze on the bed not giving a sign of my presence. So, who was it? I tried to think. As my mom was sleeping in another room and there was nobody else in the house. She did not wake up either. My imagination run wild. As my grandpa has passed away few months ago. I was so frightened that I did not go to open the door to see what it was. So I lied on the bed afraid to move. But nothing really happened for a long time. And I started to read again. this time I did not switch off the light and read until I fell asleep. In the morning I woke up later. But asked mom whether doors were closed. Then I thought that it might be that something heavy had fallen to floor, but I did not discovered any loose objects on attic and other rooms behind the door. So it remains unknown to me what caused that knocking sound.

To add spookiness, a cupboard has fallen off the wall twice during these years. Without any obvious reason. It could have been an accident too.

It is now long time since my grandparents deaths and there has been no paranormal activities.

I don't want to be misconstrued as having called anyone a liar, as everyone has their own truth. But having said that, I do not now, nor have I ever had a reason to believe in ghosts.

The Catholic Church has a tradition of very devout people (And some not so devout) having visions of the saints or the Virgin Mary or some miraculous unexplained natural occurrence. Then there are people who see Jesus in shadows, toast, trees, wood grain, stains, and other things. There are even shrines and miracle cures ascribed to these visions and sightings.

I often wondered about this.

Suppose in a moment of need, that perception helps someone over a bad time or keeps them from doing bad things or convinces them to do good things with their life. Then why or how could I doubt their faith in their vision. It certainly was real enough for them to act upon.

My logic is that who am I to doubt their personal revelation. If it helped them, what would be accomplished by proving a "good" as something else?

It's like these ghosts that I don't believe in. My disbelief doesn't actually mean that they don't exist... just as my belief doesn't prove it either.

I'm easy.

If no one believed in ghosts, would there be any?

I like your answer, Dave.

I think we are all instilled with some beliefs as young ones from our parents, schools and religion. Then things happen. Out of the blue, not regularly, but they happen. When they do and when you get on in life and have multiple things happen, you have to question some of those things you were taught. The very first times, I thought it was me and I was going looney. Now I know things happen to other people also and I have adjusted my beliefs. But I gather those things do not happen to everyone. I haven't a clue why life is like that. I also understand that people who have not had those experiences are going to have completely different thoughts.

If a tree fell in the forest and nobody was there to hear it, would it make a sound?

Not to dig up an old thread but according to an old Playboy magazine, yes there would. After the tree fell it would say "Oh Shit."

When your trees start talking to you it is time to change your medication. Or, perhaps your brand of weed...? ;)

To quote Bill Clinton, If you believe it, it isn't a lie.
