Loved the Freud joke, since it supposes the listener familiar with Freud's actual "sometimes a cigar is just a cugar" remark.
I would never have made the association with "Christmas piece," since I never heard of it until now. Do they still do this? You know I was raised atheist and ethnically Jewish, so the Christian customs were little known to me.
I believe that they still do that in some churches in small communities. The children are given small verses to memorize and to read during a Christmas program. (If they cannot remember it they might read it from their small paper if they can read.)
It is the practice of simple people from simpler times. I wish I could go back sometimes, but I have children of my own, and GRANDCHILDREN who have graduated High School and who will be graduating shortly. Happy Holidays, Bob/3 and every one...!
