Civility Lost

Go figure.

sincerely,

(no more name calling or calling people out, do it again and I will give you a vacation, River)

I kid. Not about departed civility.

I enjoy civility. Mannerly people are whom I am most comfortable to be around. When I am out in public and someone is rather coarse in language and behaviors I go in the other direction. I am often asked if I am from the South due to my use of please and thank you, holding the door for others, and other signs of gentility and respect.

Of course when I am driving and you pull out in front of me to go slower you will hear more mother fuckers than ever before.

Can't say you all weren't given fair warning many times.

name deleted is my buddy.

He knows it. You all know it.

It was never necessary for us to agree,, to be "buddies". More like trust.

Plus I saved his life!

No more personal references. I am programming myself.

Thank You for this attempt at mental rebooting. Really.

A few years ago I was training as a bus driver for Seattle Metro. On dealing with riders, the instructor gave us some advice that has stuck with me over the years, and is relevant to this thread. He said that, "A loud voice is the sign of a disordered mind." While there are variations from one culture to another, (loud for a Scandinavian may be average for an Italian) the principle has usually been right, (observe volume increasing with increasing alcohol or drug consumption). Walking down the street, when people hear someone yellling they look away and cross the street. The same principle applies for the online equivalent behavior. Posters who engage in namecalling, ad hominim attacks, all capital letters, the use of "the N word" etc. are saying nothing about the object of their scorn. To those who can see and who can hear, they are announcing the disorder and the inadequacy of their own minds.

And, though I am probably the most radical liberal posting here, I must point out that Mr Bobover, while many of his posts repost Right Wing rants, engages in far less uncivil behavior than those who attack him. I would invite anyone here to examine recent posts by Mr.s Bobover, A1 and Slammr, to see which side is engaging in the most uncivil behavior. I have called several of his posts ridiculous or preposterous, but I have tried to refute them with documented facts and logic. If I have crossed the line, Mr Bobover has my apology. And most of his posts are easy to refute with a little online research to pull up a few facts. It keeps happening. Bobover posts a sweet pitch down the middle of the plate just begging to be refuted. I spend a couple of hours crafting a brilliant response, go to post it and find the administrators have closed the thread because they don't like his point of view. To censor an idea is to admit that you can't refute it. Besides without him we would have no one to argue with. When he was ill, this place was sooooo boring.

My computer goes nuts and the EA changes itself. Sigh, I missed the fireworks. I missed two TV shows I wanted to see. I almost missed dinner.

I'll still track the news of LGBT related matters in the Courts. There are forums that are suitable for those items.

Beyond that, I'm still a political junky but I'll get my fix elsewhere. Look, I went to Red Robin and scarfed down two of their hamburgers and a plate of fries after I faced up to the old computer's near demise and the new computer's purchase. I just remembered there's a piece of meat thawing on the metal plate I used to thaw things. i forgot to put it in the refrigerator when I left for the computer store. We'll all survive that.

Damn, that's going to be unfit for doggies by tomorrow morning when I get out of bed.

Just another loss in a long day of bad news and spending money.

We all will survive this, and as Sgt Phil Esterhaus (Michael Conrad) used to say -- "Be careful out there."

And I would add, "Don't bang the keyboard like that"

Or pick on friends...

;)

I am probably one of the more conservative people posting here, but I agree with Transward on everything he said. And thanks, T, for your occassional sweet pitch right down the middle.

Thank you for the nice word, but "everything she said," please. It says so on my drivers license, and I"ve gone to some effort to get that F.
