In the time of the Emporers of China, gelded boys were obliged to keep thier testie's and have then fryed to enable them to be preserved.

The idea being that they could be buried with thier testies and be born again as men. It they were not buried with them they could come back as women or relive thier lives as eunuchs.

Sorry to those who want to keep them, but it's just NOT my thing and I can't imaging having to keep the things around to be buried with me......

Dr. Arnkoff did ask me if I wanted mine since a previous patient had requested his after the procedure. I was a bit surprised as I'd never even considered keeping them after they were no longer attached but appreciated his thoughtful consideration in asking; mine went in the medical waste which is where I figured they'd wind up all along.

There were many places and times that people believed that if you were not buried with all of your body parts then you would not rise into the afterlife or you would rise as half a man (or woman). That's why the ancient Pharaohs of Egypt had synoptic jars holding their organs. It's not an uncommon religious belief.

True but the one organ they had could see no use for was the brain, they sucked it out and throw it away.

In mummies the brain was used to preserve the skin.

The rule of thumb is one brain tans one hide of the animal.

I did ask and was told that they would go to what was pristinely called "Medical Disposal". In other words, the hospital threw them out.

Actually, they became "medical waste" which is disposed of separately and in special ways like "hazardous waste."

In my days as chemical engineer and then ISO 14001 auditor, I had to learn the differences between municipal waste, hazardous waste, chemical waste, and medical waste (which may or may not be infectious - i.e. Blood Born Pathogens). I was asked if I wanted to be hazardous waste manager and I turned it down. Not my idea of a good job even with a promotion and about 10K of pay. We tracked carcinogenic chemicals and exposures. Not fun.

So I know for sure that medical disposal of testicles or body parts for biopsies and such stuff are marked as medical waste and not just thrown in the trash. Most likely the parts are cremated.

I'll also tell you something that if you have a queasy stomach, you should not read farther...

When Flight 427 crashed near Pittsburgh, I knew several groups that were first responders. The firemen, policemen and ambulances that responded quickly dressed in protective clothing. There were body parts and blood splatters all around the crash and contact with those could pass on any blood born pathogen like hepatitis C or AIDS or other diseases. Body parts were found in trees with clothing still on, and more lay on the ground and blood splats were on most things that came in contact with bodies. There were children on that flight.
