Rapists May Lose Manhood In Osun
Sat, 24/11/2012 - 4:01am | NAN News Metro
The Osun State government has sent a bill to the House of Assembly, seeking stiffer penalties for rapists, including the cutting off of the penis.
Mrs. Mofolake Adegboyega, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, told newsmen yesterday in Osogbo that the bill recommended among other penalties, the cutting off of the third leg.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the commissioner as saying that the Violence Against Women and Children Bill, was aimed at reducing the cases of rape in the state.
The commissioner, who expressed sadness at the increasing trend, especially, that of minors, said the state government was working out possible solutions.
According to her, one of the ways of curbing the problem is the bill, which has been sent to the House of Assembly.
She said the bill would spell out details of punishment for culprits within the confines of the law.
Adegboyega cited Saudi Arabia, where legs and even heads of culprits are cut off for serious offences, stressing that it would not be too much to cut off the manhood of a rapist.

Sounds cool, except it would really suck to get falsely accused of rape and then get your dick cut off as a result.

It has been known for people to be accused of and convicted of things they did not do.
That sure makes a case for living alone and never leading your house or having visitors.
A boring life but less risk. With internet access you can work remotely, and get just about anything you need delivered .
But one does not live alone. We are dependent on lots of people to provide what we need.
Electricity, communications, water, sewer, etc.
Something less surgical might be better, such as a testing ground for calcium chloride injected into the testicles.

Re: Nigeria considers bill to cut off rapists' penises as punishment
yes obviously the fantasy of things we talk about on this site are great
however
i think a reality of laws to remove body parts are barbaric and unnecessary, hopefully this WONT come to the western world as law should not have that kind of power to disfigure an individual, especially with the amount of innocent people in jail etc, this is a slippery slope to go down giving away rights to our own bodies could lean to a lot worse things in the future after people have been desensitized to "disfigurement by law" and having limbs lopped becomes just the norm.
however obviously in these countries which are use to lopping limbs and heads, i guess this kind of law wouldn't make much difference to them, maybe, however still in one of those countries i think they need to be brought out of that way of thinking if possible, not making more laws to make the limb lopping problem over there worse.
i dont know, i just dont agree with it, don't get me wrong, rape is obviously awful, but giving away our rights to our bodies like i say is a slippery slope for the future, once you've given away your rights for your body for one thing (i.e rape) its a crack in the flood gate for those kind of laws to leak into other things... after all, for ultimate control, the governments seem hell bent on sending us back to medievil ages just with better technology so they'd love ultimate detterrants like this to be looked favorably upon... once things like this come in, how long would it be until you lose your tongue for peaceful protesting?

Well maybe if it was done surgically, with anesthesia. I think Pakistan does it that way.
A one legged purse snatcher would definitely have to find a new line of income.
What would the like punishment be for those White Collar Wall Streeters?
Probably a hand for the thieves they are.
The good thing is, repeat offenders happen a lot less then the Western manner of rehabilitation.

Re: Nigeria considers bill to cut off rapists' penises as punishment
To be honest, I'm surprised punitive penectomies haven't been more common throughout history or even today for that matter. I mean why not? If we're chopping parts - heads, hands, ..what have you, why should the penis be off limits?
If this does come to pass, one can only hope that a guillotine would be used!

They used to be a pretty common spoil of war I think guillotineme, although someone with more knowledge would have to back me up!
Quite agree with Lasander and Wannabe. It's not exactly something you can put right if you got the wrong guy!

Remember HBO "Rome" and
David delivering foreskins to Saul. I don't believe what the foreskins were attached to was left alive.

I'm really not going to let you bait me Moi.
They used to do it to count the dead but also on survivors. Depended on the army. Again someone who knows their HIStory will have to back me up...

Re: Nigeria considers bill to cut off rapists' penises as punishment
I don't know if they did or didn't cut of the penises of battle survivors "back in the day". Though I suspect it was uncommon to do so to survivors as to do so would almost certainly mean death for those losing their members. Though, this may have been part of the plan for those doing the cutting. Regardless, I'm sure it's true that at least some living prisoners were unmanned post battle.
Trophies taken from the dead is a different story of course.
Penis amputation as a form of direct punishment under the guise of a civilized society punishing crime and not in a state of war does seem to be a very rare occurrence historically speaking. As a matter of fact, I don't know of any societies that chopped off penises as a form of punishment, whether historical speaking or presently existing.
Why this has never been more common, I don't know exactly. And please don't offer the reason of "it's to barbaric". I'd be forced to site other acts of 'punishment' that clearly were intended to satisfy some form of sadism as well as to offer justice.
