Re: Death of an ICON
HOSTESS was a victim of vulture capitalism.
Last year when this company bought HOSTESS, they got concessions from all of the unions on both salaries and retirement. That was the price of avoiding a bankruptcy. Then they didn't implement any changes and came back this year and demanded more concessions from the workers.
So the workers said -- you can't do that twice and get away with it...

I can't remember the last time I ate a twinkie but it's only a twinkie.
It's not the end of the world ... Well maybe the Baktun come early ...
It's the iconography and symbolism.
Semioticians across the globe are despairing.
If you know any semioticians please check that they aren't suicidal.
A Semiotician is a terrible thing to waste...

This greedy entitlement mentality will be the death of us all.
Who are the REAL greedy people? Those who invest thier money, make sound decisions and take a chance on a business that returns an honest profit and provides 1,000's of jobs? Or those who demand that someone else hand over thier money to them in the name of some twisted definition of "fairness"?
As apposed to the greedy corporate raiders like Mitt, who buys companies strips them clean then throws them away.
Look unions were started to bring about a fairness in the work place, hours and pay. In recent years these top corporate MBA have decided people are expendable, not needed, send the jobs to Asia. This has the tendency to piss people off, an example of this, I just ended a several year relationship with comcast because their customer service is with people who speak English as a third or forth language, who keep you on hold, with a company policy that raises the price on your bill every month, its called bait and switch. I moved to another company I actually pay more but I know what my bill will be each month and when I call I get someone who lives here.
To your second part, WHAT JOBS? you see you might have won that argument if people were back working but they are not, so where the rich and corporations have had it there way for the last 30 years, the tide now turns, they will still be in business they just wont doing it on the backs of those that work for a living. Now they will need to pay them.
Final word, I see your new here on the political board, remember to attack the issues not each other.

Including Milk & Ice cream.
They are not less yummy then the full of Lactose stuff.

Lying dairy products that label themselves as being lactose-free really anger me. You can add all the lactase enzyme you want, it still is going to burn straight through my interiors like Alien blood.

I am so thankful that the only food allergy's I have are all from one Family: Brassicaceae this includes Mustard, Broccoli Cauliflower, Cabbage, Rutabaga,Turnips, Radishes, and Horseradish. Some of these I love but OMG do they ever hate me. Today I made some deviled eggs, and yes I used a bit of mustard and I can feel it but they were so good, sigh can't have them again for a long time. The problem is that they just don't taste right without the Mustard.

Re: Death of an ICON
I just found out from the NY Times that the Hostess products had no real chocolate and no real cream. They used chemical substitutes. I ate so many of their products when I was a teen. If only I'd known. It's been many years since I last had one, but I wouldn't now. Nostalgia is fine, but good riddance.

Re: Death of an ICON
No REAL chocolate in a chocolate Hostess Cup Cake.
And it relieves a Chocoholic attack so well. Especially frozen.
Twinkies is the stereotype of our Junk Food culture.
Remember Archie Bunker and his Twinkie references to his lunch pail.
As a kid I would eat a Hostess cup cake as follows;
the cake first, bottom up. Slurp the cream.
When down to the icing, enjoy each chocolate half and save the squiggle for last.
All so ritualistic. As an adult I just bite through all layers at once.
It was comforting to know they were there for me at the market, whenever the urge struck.
Sort of like Chocolate or Ice Cream.
I hope someone resurrects the products.

Anyone remember, ZERO candy bars?
