Hey, up until Firefox came out, I was running Windows 2000 SP4 with IE6.

I just upgraded to XP Pro in early 2011.

Still using Firefox 3.5 here... I hate the new "streamlined" designs of all of the new versions of the browsers. I want my classic "back," "forward," "reload," "stop," and "home" buttons, and all of the app links under them, damn it!!! And I want my tabs on the bottom where I can reach them easily, not all the way on the top.

I keep Google Chrome on standby for when something is no longer supporting Firefox 3.5, but other than that I'm sticking with it until the end.

What I like most about Firefox is that I can customize it so easily, then grab the "Application Data" folder, paste it over to another computer, like the laptop, and have them be identical. That way I don't have to jack with customizing all 3 that I use. I have to say, though, the new Firefox is a huge RAM hog. Huge. If you have 4 gig of RAM, it will happily eat 2 of it over time just idling.

Funny that is exactly the way I have the latest version of Opera set up. All the usual buttons plus a way back button that goes to the beginning of those "25 worst cars ever" type (or 25 hottest strippers, if you prefer) sites saving 25 clicks of the back button.

transward (imported) wrote: Fri Nov 09, 2012 7:06 pm I am confused. There is:

Windows 7 Home Premium (which comes with Internet Explorer 8 or 9) and which is on operating system.

Internet Explorer 7 (which is obsolete for many web sites.) which is a browser, (and which if I remember came with Windows XP)

In either case try updating to IE 9 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/inte ... -languages (though personally I prefer Opera http://www.opera.com/download/)

WinXP came with IE6.

Vista with IE7.

Win7 with IE8.

You can upgrade to IE8 with WinXP.

You can upgrade to IE9 with Vista and Win7.

IE7 and below will have problems on some Websites.

Hopefully that will un-confuse things.

PS:

Arab Nights, if you go to www.microsoft.com/ie you can upgrade IE. That should fix the problems you are having. It would be a good idea to upgrade even if you don't use IE, because many other programs and/or system tasks will use IE.

Reading about Windows 8. Damn. I felt backwards with Vista. Now I'm drifting into obsolescence. Though I've heard complaints that there isn't much application software for 8 yet. Does anyone know if Windows 8 is worth it?

I'm committed to Firefox. My original reason was that I wanted to do SEO for my business, and most SEO software is written for Firefox.

I installed Window 8 on my laptop, and I like it. Only cost $39 downloaded from Microsoft. I see no reason to install it on my desktop computer, but I like it on my laptop. I do wish I had touchscreen. It works fine using a mouse, but it rocks with a touchscreen device. Eventually, I see myself buying a laptop/tablet convertible Windows 8 machine.
