Another Thing I'm Sick of Hearing:
If I started that gay rights group,
I must be gay.
So if i start an animal rights group,
what does that make me?
A giraffe?

Re: Makes sense
What exactly are "gay rights"? As opposed to, say, "human rights", for example.
Prescribing a set of rights applicable only to a specific group seems intuitively unhealthy. Although the Nazis and Communists enjoyed some success with it. For a while, anyway.

From my 66 year old point of view, gay rights are human rights no less than gaining rights for black Americans or Women.

How clueless can you be? Sorry, but there's really no other way to say it.
To not grasp the concept that it's the very inequality of rights that already are applicable to a specific group and that gays are exuded from that group. It's not about EXTRA rights, it's about he same rights the rest of society takes for granted. Comparing what gays want to what Nazis and Communists enjoyed is, well simply bizarre.

As a historian, you are no doubt well aware of the well documented, egregious denial of various rights to life & liberty (particularly liberty to participate in the case of women) that have been inflicted on minorities and females over the past centuries. Those are largely addressed by modern societal norms. But I honestly have no clue (as has been churlishly alluded to in another post on this thread) what rights gays are being deprived of. I've lived the gay life for going on 50 years, and am totally unaware of any rights I've been deprived of because of who I am. So, I can only assume I've been deprived of some special, circumstantial rights that I have no knowledge of. If so, then those unknown "rights" do not exist except in the imaginations of some group of leftists.

If you've lived the gay life for 50 years and not experienced some sort of deprivations of rights or been persecuted for it, then you're damn lucky.
The whole issue of "gay rights" is that anyone who is openly gay has all the rights that uptight right-wing religious Republican whack-jobs have.
In other words, the rights that EVERYONE should have.
This thread is done.
