Thanks. Can't wait to be free of T forever!
It's going really well. Five hours post-injection and the discomfort has gotten much less. I won't believe it until some more time elapses.

Now it's nine hours after injecting and still no significant pain. Either I'm really lucky, have good anatomy for this or just stumbled on some combination of modifications that resulted in minimal pain. Balls are still swollen, but only as large as they were before androcur.
I was able to go to a lovely outdoor reception this evening and not think about my testicles!

It was uncomfortable but I ran equipment the next day.

Reading through this forum, I was worried about the several horror stories of severe pain. I think I could have been much more active today as well. Right now they're still swollen but less sensitive to the touch than even earlier today. I feel pretty normal.

I really wish I knew how much was luck. Reading through your posts, it seems like you may have injected aqueous CaCl2 both times, right? As you mentioned, CaCl2 dissolved in 95% ethanol is recommended to maximize effectiveness and minimize pain. On the other hand, it seems that you experienced much more swelling than I have so far. Right now, they're about 10% larger than they were before I started androcur. The pain seems likely caused by stretching the capsule.
This is confusing. We'd all probably react differently even if we followed exactly the same protocol, but people have tried a lot of variations and that undoubtedly contributes to variable outcomes. I stuck as closely as possible to the veterinary procedure used on dogs (with alcohol as solvent) because there was such low variability in the group of 20 dogs that had this formulation. I'm a biological scientist and the small error bars really impressed me. Another group of 20 dogs showed much more variability when the CaCl2 was in aqueous solution. Interestingly, both groups showed a ~60% drop in testosterone immediately following injection, then a slower decline with time that partly reversed in the dogs with aqueous injection, but continued steadily downward to castrate levels in the group with alcohol as the solvent. Even a year following injection, the alcohol group showed no recovery, suggesting it was permanent. I'm hoping that will be the case for me.

Re: Calcium Chloride and Other Salt Injections for Castration
Three days after injection and I thought the swelling was beginning to recede, but measurements show that they're still getting bigger, about 25% larger than pre-Androcur volume and twice as large as they were after being on Androcur for four months. It doesn't make sense that the extra swelling is accompanied by almost no discomfort, but I'll take it. The good news is that both testicles appear to be reacting equally, so both injections must have gotten to the right place.
It occurs to me that the lengthwise injection path recommended by the vets makes it fairly easy to place the needle in the middle of the part of the testicle containing the seminiferous tubules where the Leydig cells that make testosterone also reside. Injecting into the front with a long needle might place the tip of the needle into the ducts that collect sperm or into the epididymis. The epididymis is known to have receptors that can trigger chronic testicular pain. Maybe injecting into these latter regions is responsible for excessive discomfort. Just speculation, so don't take this too seriously.

What exactly is the recommendation about lengthwise injection?

It's all described in:
